    Suggestions for First I.C. Engine

Thanks. I am familiar with the glow plug system, although it has been quite a few years. I used to fly control line planes in the 1970's (Lil Satan and Ringmaster, as well as the plastic ones I started on). Most were with Cox .049 engines and 1 was a Fox which was much larger. I guess the glow...

    Suggestions for First I.C. Engine

With regard to the gears, if I make one with gears, I will just have to learn how to make them. Nothing wrong with trying to learn something new and expanding my experience.

    Suggestions for First I.C. Engine

Thank you. Certainly has my attention. Couple questions. Is there a replacement for the cast iron liner? Could the entire cylinder be made of C93200 bearing bronze (Rancon 660) or some other material besides c.i. (I have plenty of the bronze). Also, what is used to start it? Do you have a...

    Suggestions for First I.C. Engine

I've looked at the Kerzel plans and the Webster plans, as suggested above. I like them both; however, I am a little timid regarding the gears that need to be made for the Webster. Further information would be appreciated. Thanks for the replies.

Yes. The plans were from a 1972 publication.

    Suggestions for First I.C. Engine

I have built model steam engines that run on compressed air. 2 of the 3 run well; but, the 3rd one with a rotary valve won't run, even after rebuilding parts. All 3 were built from bar stock with free online plans. I would like to try my hand at an I.C. engine that I can get to run. I would...

    Select 816 B Lathe Acquired

Good to hear you have resolved it. I would not have pulled the spindle on mine if it wasn't primarily because of the worn cone pulley, that gave gave me a chance to check why the bearings were heating up.

    Select 816 B Lathe Acquired

I am pleased that this thread has somewhat been revived. There is not a whole lot of info out there on this lathe. It is still serving me very nicely. It is my go to lathe, although I also have a 4 -1/2 foot SB9a (1941) that works very nicely and is a great lathe. The Select lathe is just easier...

    Select 816 B Lathe Acquired

I reviewed this thread and photos, and a few posts back, I learned that one should not try to hammer the spindle out. I used a threaded rod similar set-up like comstock-friend showed in a previous post when I, subsequently to this lathe, did my South bend 9 belt replacement. Are you having...

Older Sherline 4000 for Beginners First Lathe

Actually, I have not found a need for a longer bed on the Taig. I also have Southbend 9a with the extra long bed ;) . However, I do find myself using the Taig more often for the stuff I do. Chocolate icing is good :).

Older Sherline 4000 for Beginners First Lathe

I second the Taig lathe. Mine does everything I need it to do. My Taig mill as well. Great little lathe and mill for the size.

Have you ever felt lazy or no longer interested to build engines ?

One of the many things I like about this hobby is that there is no deadline. It is very easy to pick up and start where one left off, be it a day, a week or, a month or 2 later. Now that the warmer weather is here, I will probably be doing more outdoor activities, but my build in progress will...

Can I build an Elderberry Launch Engine with just a lathe?

I am going to begin making this engine, after I figure out the grooves in the rotary valve. Just wondering how you made the grooves in the valve. I am thinking I need a rotary table or an indexer for this. Hopefully not.

If I suggested that to my wife, I would be single thereafter :D .
