    Generator plans?

Jeff, actually I was about to ask you about your generator that I saw in your price winning build. Very good-looking machines. Both the plant and the generators. Your approach probably has a much higher chance of success than without permanent magnets. I like both designs. The reason I’m...

    Generator plans?

Tony, a conversion is absolutely the safest route to a working generator, for sure. I'm after something that looks authentic, so covering up a motor can be difficult. Thinking of maybe using the stator windings from a motor of some kind. The rotor will be visible and probably not all that...

    Generator plans?

Dave, yes, I'm thinking like three small square sauce or food oil bottles cut to suitable depth. Will look very Edison like. I will study those Leclanche cells, thanks. Rudy

    Generator plans?

ShopShoe, I think your point is very relevant. After all I'm searching for a vintage looking and feeling solution, so a flickering light bulb would be just fine. I think I will go searching for pictures of vintage power plants and try to make a model resembling something made at that time. Maybe...

    Generator plans?

Thanks Jeff. I plan to put on a DC/DC converter to give me some "useful" voltage, so the output level is not an issue. The generator kit from Stuart (and PM maybe) looks pretty ok, but has permanent magnets. I imagine a vintage motor with just windings, no magnets, could be a place to start. Rudy

    Generator plans?

I have been searching for plans to build an old style generator that will go together with my old style engines like the Stuart 10V and soon the Farm Boy. Preferably without permanent magnets so the drag will be less when just coasting. No luck so far. Anyone seen anything like it ? Rudy

    Hello from Belgium

Hello Davy, I'm new to this my selves and I started with a Stuart 10V from castings. However, I had mixed experience with that even if it became quite fine at the end. Some of the castings where scaled/hardened at spots. Destroyed the tools and made me wonder what was going on. Not easy to...

    Hit and Miss Engine Model

Jack, I'm building Farm Boy #651 now and would very much like to see yours. The pics in your thread are gone. Rudy

My almost finished first ic engine.

So nice to see it run John! Must feel good. I'm looking so much forward to get my own engine run to. Rudy

    Farm Boy 651

Engine Maker, I want to earn my selves a nick name to! I will pick you up on that 100+ revs! When I succeed, I want some fancy name. My first build, the Stuart 10V, runs on 0.4psi with no running in, so I’m feeling I can manage it with even more practice. My “thing” is...

    Farm Boy 651

Think I got it right. Maybe the spring I have here is a bit small. One other detail.. the screw for the catch block is drawn in the plans at a 4 degree angle to the block. That will easily brake the small screw if it is tightened. Fixed that. Rudy

    Farm Boy 651

Think I got it Engine maker. The screw body in the plans is going to be pressed into the widest part of the hole and stay attached (plans doesn’t tell). Preferably with some LockTite. Then I have a clean hole for the spring with no threads for the spring to catch up on. And the spring, as...

    a small update

Like that shop.. I'm inspired to keep things organized. Rudy

    Farm Boy 651

I have great progress in this build and I will come back and post many pictures, but I’m stuck now and need some help. The governor catch lever shall have a hole for a speed adjustment screw. I don’t understand how this screw shall be made or how it works. The plans are not very...

    wtb rotary table

I have had my share of issues with rotary tables.. Got one together with my machines when I bought them, unknown origin, 160mm, looks crappy, but felt ok. After some use I discovered it was totally unserviceable. Nothing was turning true in any direction. Had to be discarded. Got another small...

My almost finished first ic engine.

John, I suppose that crank shaft building method is dependent upon how tight the webs and shaft is fitted. If there is room here and this is filled with soft solder, I guess it could fail. I did it with very tight fit, no clearance, LockTite 603 and pinning. Time will show if it holds, but I...

My almost finished first ic engine.

Like your engine John. I'm building a similar engine my selves (Farm Boy). Like these Hit'n miss engines. Would be nice to see more detail pics. Also a video when it's running. I also would like to hear if you experience something I (and others) could learn from doing an IC engine for the first...

    The built has begun!

Gerard, Nice and cozy shop you got there. Yes, I think we all love lots of pictures, so It would be nice to see the progress on your new project. Rudy

    Farm Boy 651

Tried to make one-piece valves. Ended up turning a couple of tapers. Reverted to the study and did some research. Came across your valve tutorial Brian :-). I’m going to try it. However, I also going to try another method I’m thinking of. I’ll let you know.. Rudy

    Farm Boy 651

Thanks again for the feedback Brian. I started with two-piece because it was so easy. A piece of rod and a little disc. The plan was to silver solder, but I hesitated. If the valve head gets loose, I probably will damage the crank and more, so I will make one-pieces. I have done hundred car...
