    Bob tail caliper

How often doesn't your caliper bump into the machine somewhere because it is too long? And what do you do about it? Wonder why I didn't do this the first day I got my machines. The first evening I had it in the shop I found my selves use it all the time. Most measurements we do are less than...

    Spark plug alternatives

I like the "I even made the spark plug" thing. I will give it a go. However, to minimize problems from the start I did order a Rimfire along with the PIC buzz coil driver from Jerry Howel. I have confidence in that multiple spark idea. Since this will be my first IC engine (second build ever). I...

    Spark plug alternatives

I’m planning ahead for the ignition system for my ongoing Farm Boy hit’n miss engine build (have a thread on it). The first option I came across was the Rimfire. This one is rather expensive and will be even twice that shipped to Norway. And it seems to be available in just the long version...

Some updates on the build. Lots of machining on those big aluminum lumps. Have to be really careful not to overshoot and destroy the whole thing. The DRO is really helpful in this case.

    Hello from the Netherlands

This is very good. Love your taste for engines. Some day I will build a two cylinder my selves. Your work and post is an asset to this forum. Looking forward to see your future builds. Rudy

    How to post a picture.

testing, testing... trying to get text in between the pics, but no luck. Just uploading the pictures directly to the forum. Anybody know how? Yes! I know! Thanks Cogsy.

    Simple mill threading tool

And of cause it works as well on the lathe!

    Stuart Twin Victoria from scratch

Jack, do I see 90 degree angles against the table? If so the parts will have a hard time getting loose from the sand mold. Slip angles makes it easier.

    boxer engine

Ambitious plans for sure. What will be your approach? Casting, manual milling, CNC? Have a soft spot for that construction. Resembles my Subaru Sti engine 

    Farm Boy 651

Got the frame material! Some lump of aluminum! Nearly an hour in the band saw to cut it. Looking forward to many happy hours in the mill. This stuff machines like butter.

Made the con rod while waiting for frame material. This piece is actually both easy and difficult to make. Easy to get accurate in terms of function. Difficult to make look right. I found a setup that worked fine to me. Drilling holes to make radiuses and then support it with drill bits to align...

    Lathe service

I have the exact same lathe. The biggest issue with mine was actually paint at the underside at the way. Even when it was adjusted tight there was paint in between that prevented the sadle to be solid. Otherwise just by taking the whole saddle and apron apart, clean out swarf and debur parts...

    Stuart Twin Victoria from scratch

Glad to hear your castings where ok, because I wanted to build another Stuart. I like them a lot. I assumed when casting at home one could maybe put more effort than speed into the process. However, I have no experience. I also like to do most my selves, so maybe I will just buy the drawings and...

    Stuart Twin Victoria from scratch

Jack, I like your approach. Just finished a Stuart 10V my selves and the chilled castings from Stuart was a disappointment. As it was my first pieces of iron under my new mill and lathe so I was put down a bit. So when you make your own castings, you can probably get this problem under control...

    Farm Boy 651

While I'm waiting for the materials for the frame I started with the cylinder. It started as a 75mm lump of leaded steel. After a lot of cutting and turning I finally got a nice cylinder. I made a split wooden stick in the lathe for lapping. Did the piston in the lathe well over final...

    Motorized milling machine head

I'm currently using my cordless drill. It has the right speed and torque. Those motors made for the purpose is obviously made to hang on the handle on a bigger mill. And they have the handle on the wrong side. And yes, I want that speed. Use it constantly to lift and lower the head to change...

    Simple mill threading tool

Glad you liked it :-) Used it many times today and I really like it. Maybe I will make several more cone adapters to fit the most used tapping size drils. That way I don't have to change tools to tap.

    Simple mill threading tool

Hi, I thought I would show you how I did a simple threading too for my milling machine. Probably not the first doing this, but at least I haven't see this method in use. The nice thing about it is that you can use it for all types and sizes of taps and you have grate control over the process...

    Motorized milling machine head

Wizard, I did not plan to do fine feeding with this motor. I have a very good fine feed hand wheel on the quill, and I have the DRO on the quill too. I'm cranking the head up and down mostly to change tools. I'm having the quill as little out as possible to add stability. The stepper motor...

    Motorized milling machine head

Got the motor, hocked it up preliminary and tested it.. big failure.. I was not even close to powerful enough. I choose a 500 rpm version. This is too high gear ratio for a 120W motor. The starting torque is very weak. I f I had selected a lower speed/gear ration I guess it would be ok. However...
