Book of plans for small internal combustion and steam engines

Ouch--Yes, sometimes it's fun to be a Canadian.--Especially when buying things out of the good old USA.

Book of plans for small internal combustion and steam engines

Today I finally got to order "The engines of Doug Kelley". I have tried twice previously to order this book, and kept getting a pop up saying "Can not ship to this address". Today my wife, who is much cleverer than I am, was able to order it specifying UPS delivery. This ended up costing me...

Book of plans for small internal combustion and steam engines

I just tried to buy the book "The Engines of Doug Kelley" and was told that they don't ship to my address in Canada. Does anyone know where I could buy this book from someone who ships to Canada?---Brian

Book of plans for small internal combustion and steam engines

Danuzzo--if you want to cut your own gears, buy a set of gear cutters (I use 24 diametral pitch.) You will also need to buy a shank to hold the gear cutters, and a rotary table with chuck. This is not cheap--figure $1000 minimum. this will cut every gear size from 12 teeth up to 200 teeth and...

Book of plans for small internal combustion and steam engines

I'm looking for a good book of plans to build small bore (-1") steam and /or gasoline engines. This is going to be a Christmas gift from myself to myself. I don't want a book of "basic" plans, as I have these books and have built any number of small engines. Not looking for train plans, I want...

    Upshur's opposed twin engine

Alan--Believe it or not, the engine is still setting right here on my side table. Yes, I do plan on more work to this engine to make it run. My body isn't up to it yet, having had both knees fully replaced surgically within the last 6 months. I currently have three engines that will not run and...

The man with stainless steel knees---off topic a bit

Today I went to visit the surgeon who did my second complete knee replacement surgery on 14-Nov-2024. I spent part of the morning in X-ray, and the remainder of the day waiting for my chance to talk with the surgeon. He said the second operation was "without any issues", same as my first total...

    Upshur's opposed twin engine

Well, I'm up and hobbling around. Living on pain pills and soup. It's going to be a while before I'm ready to do anything more in my shop. Yes Steamchick, I could actually be shoveling snow, but that's why I have grandsons.

    Upshur's opposed twin engine

Okay!!! I've got my new knee!!! Went to hospital at 7:30 AM, got operated on at 10:00 AM, spent one night in hospital. Came home the next day around noon. All seems to have went very well. Pain is minimal--will be on Super Dooper pain pills for a week, will need a walker for 3 to 4 weeks. I seem...

    Upshur's opposed twin engine

I haven't worked on the engine for a couple of weeks. I go into the hospital tomorrow for my second total knee replacement. Hope it goes as well as the first knee went 5 1/2 months ago.----Brian

    Question re: Atlas metal lathe

Today I got some more information on my friends Atlas lathe. It is a 10" F series lathe catalogue number TH42 and TH54. My friend lives about 20 miles from me, and I don't have the lathe here in my shop.---Brian

    Upshur's opposed twin engine

I haven't posted much for the last week or two, as I have been feeling under the weather. However, the new intake manifold with Traxxas carburetor has been installed on the engine. There is one very notable difference---When I crank the engine over and hold my finger over the carburetor air...

    Question re: Atlas metal lathe

A friend of mine has recently purchased a mid 1950's Atlas metal lathe. It's all there except for the chuck and the drive motor and pulley. I have set him up with a 3 jaw chuck, and the literature he has suggest using a 1/2 hp. motor. What he really needs to know is the outside diameter of the...

    Upshur's opposed twin engine

I've been very busy with other things, but did manage to make a new intake manifold which accepts a Traxxas carburetor. Tomorrow I will install that on my engine and take another stab at setting the valve timing.

    Upshur's opposed twin engine

I just spent Friday and Saturday making an adaptor plate to put a 3 jaw chuck on my friends metal lathe. Nice to do some full size work for a change.

    Upshur's opposed twin engine

Be calm George. A friend of mine bought a rather ancient metal lathe and I gave him a 3 jaw chuck that doesn't fit it. Today I'm making him an adapter plate so he can fit the chuck to his lathe. The engine will still be here, setting on the end of my desk when the adapter plate is...

    Upshur's opposed twin engine

Jason---I'm off tilting at other windmills today, but---the engine has very strong compression with the heads off and my hand held over the cylinders while rotating the crankshaft. The valves have been tested in the cylinder heads, and they don't leak. I haven't tried today to reset the valve...
