    Home made programs...

Thanks for the link Cobweb. I couldn't find the kit there though. Maybe I missed it somehow. Nice source for flywheels too. Rich

    Home made programs...

Have any of you seen this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpJOEj-kX_o It's a really nice machine designed by Tom Hammond, with castings by Gary Martin. I tried to get more information, but no luck yet. Rich

    Home made programs...

Thanks for the replies, I did look at a Python tutorial today and thought...well maybe, but not right now. I used to like DOS, then windows came along...OK but never really thought it was a necessary change. What the world needs is not the same as what I need. I admit Windows changed the whole...

    Home made programs...

Yes I have considered Python, but I run a real old 286 computer in my shop. It's set up on a wide shelf above my lathe. The reason I use this computer is that ... #1 It was my first computer a Tandy TL2-1000 #2 It's up and running within a couple seconds because the operating system is stored...

    Home made programs...

I know Marv Klotz has a web site featuring his programs, they are great and I've used them many times (Thanks Marv!). I too like to dabble in simple programs for the shop. I'm not sure if anyone is interested, but I have a couple of simple programs used to help narrow down the options for...

Is CNC the solution for me?

Hey there Ryan, I want to start this post with a couple of points... First off I'm not disabled, ... and often get slightly pissed off when my knees hurt or some other totally stupid petty thing makes it more difficult to do whatever I'm trying to do. I can't even begin to tell you how ashamed I...

    DraftSight - Free 2D CAD

Hi, I use a real old DOS version of AutoCad (version 11), but I think other programs have similar features. To draw a curve intersecting all of the horizontal "endpoints" in your example, use the 'pline' (polyline) command and have your endpoint "osnap" (that's an object snap feature) on. When...

HELP. Has anyone finished this Fly-Ball Governor?

Is the photo the one you've built...or the one you want to build? Also, what part is causing you to scratch you're head? Now just because I ask, doesn't mean I have an answer, but I bet someone here does. RichD

The way it used to be (and still is)

That's how I grew up except we had a cement floor and my Dad would draw his design on the floor with soap stone

How to make a plastic gear!

There is something perversely neat about using ancient technology when CNC is all the rage! Ain't that a fact! CNC is great...but it's important to preserve the proven techniques so we don't have to reinvent the wheel every generation.

    Milling machine oppinion

Hi, I have a grizzly X3 and I'm pretty happy with it. I've had it for about five years now. It is heavier than the X2 and more rigid. I have run an older Brown&Sharp horizontal/vertical mill and also a large Cincinnati Vertical. These hobby sized mills are just that...hobby machines. They'll...

    Alterations to a BV20 Lathe.

RareOne, I have a Harbor Freight 9x20. There is a Yahoo Group for the 9x20 lathe... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/9x20Lathe/?yguid=78923251 They cover just about everything you'd want to know about your lathe. Regards, Rich

    3D CAD and Model Engineering

Lew, Not sure if this helps, but if you offset each of the tangent lines by the known radius of that third arc...the intersection of the two new lines will be the center of the third circle. In AutoCad built in tools let you place all these items and identify center points, intersections etc. Rich

Nice job Kel! I totally understand how you did it, but it must take the patience of a saint. Thanks, Rich

    Engraving Without CNC

Nice work Kel, and well illustrated too. I was able to follow along pretty well until you got to the angled parts. Somehow I got confused, but I guess you are saying that you use step cuts in x-y increments to cut the angles? I don't have a DRO so maybe it's just escaping me through a lack of...
