    Engineer Reporting in!

Steam engines will also run on compressed air. I would suggest starting with one of Elmer's engines. I am working on my sixth one currently. The wobbler is a good one for a beginner. Plans can be found here.

    Elmer's Geared #5

Here is the start of my build of Elmer's geared. This is my favorite of Elmer's. I have put off building this one because of the cost of the gears but I came to the realization that they will most likely not get any cheaper and I knew that I would definitely build this one someday. When...

    X2 mill digital displays

After using the mill a few times now with the scales I am definitely glad I got them. It is so much easier than counting turns. These were something that I debated getting ever since I got my mill about a year ago. Now I wish I would have gotten them sooner. I also ended up putting one on my...

    X2 mill digital displays

I added digital displays from Grizzly to my mill. I decided to go with the stainless steel ones as opposed to the aluminum ones. The stainless ones are supposed to have better accuracy. I haven't used the mill yet since installing them. I know these don't compare to a real DRO but it should...

    Elmer's Comber Rotary #46

Thank you. I am thinking that next I will make Elmer's Geared. The gears are quite pricey but since this engine is on my must build list I might as well bite the bullet and buy them now. I am sure that the price will only go up so the longer I wait, the more I will end up spending.

    Elmer's #46 Comber Rotary Engine

Yes, the center line of the bearings is 1/4 inch lower than the center of the ring (which is equal to half of the stroke). The ring is sort of an elliptical shape. I just finished up making brass bushings for the rollers. I was getting some binding and I hope the bushings take care of that...

    Elmer's #46 Comber Rotary Engine

Here is the completed engine. I did run it for a short time yesterday. It requires about 15 psi to run. I will post a video after I do a little fine tuning to get it to run a little smoother.

    Elmer's #46 Comber Rotary Engine

Finished the flywheel today (other than the threaded hole for the set screw). I should have spent more time with the hacksaw cutting the corners off of the chunk of aluminum I had on hand. It took a long time to turn the rectangle down to a circle. I really should invest in a band saw. I...

    Elmer's #46 Comber Rotary Engine

Made two cylinder heads. Also made the piston and piston rod. I Locktited the piston to the rod instead of soldering it. I assume that the Locktite will hold good enough. I also made the two rollers. All that is left are the two forks and a flywheel.
