    Kerzel Hit and Miss

This is the setup I used for the undercut for the water passage. I mounted the boring bar upside down and cut on the backside of the bore to make it easier to see.

Path's Build for Rupnow's Hit Miss Engine

It did not work. It looks like you are hosting these pictures on www.phutcheson.net, correct? I get a server not found message when trying to access your website.

    Kerzel Hit and Miss

Thanks for the link Brian. Your build thread is where I discovered the Kerzel. I have already read your excellent build thread and am sure I will reference it again as I go along.

Path's Build for Rupnow's Hit Miss Engine

I also cannot see the pictures. There is just text with blank space between the lines where I assume is where the pictures should be.

    Kerzel Hit and Miss

I finally got started on my first IC engine, the Kerzel Hit and Miss. Here is the start of the cylinder body. First I milled a chunk of aluminum to size. I used my new boring head as a flycutter and it worked very well. I drilled out the bore with a 1/2 inch drill, then a 3/4 inch endmill...

    Elmer's #33 - Yet Another Mill Engine

Great start Stan. I look forward to following another of your excellent build logs.

    Elmer's #34 - Cross Twin

Great looking engine Stan. This is the first Elmer's Cross Twin that I have seen. I think that this engine is now on my "to build" list. Also, excellent job documenting the build. I look forward to your next build.

    First IC engine suggestions

Ogaryd, Glad to here that your Kerel turned out well. Do you have any pictures or video of it? The only one I have been able to find here is Brian Rupnow's. Did you make cast iron piston rings, or did you use an o-ring? This engine build will also contain many firsts for me, hopefully...

    First IC engine suggestions

Thanks Steve. I have already read all of Brian's Kerzel thread. It is where I learned of the Kerzel. I agree that he did a great job documenting the build, as usual for Brian.

    First IC engine suggestions

I think I have my choices down to either an Upshur Farm Engine or the Kerzel Hit and Miss. I have looked over the Kerzel plans and they look pretty good. I have not purchased the Upshur plans so I cannot compare the two. I am wondering if anyone has any insight on either of these two engines...

    Thank you Canadians!!

Here in Wisconsin we are looking at -30F tomorrow night and only -17F for a high temp on Monday. Wind chill is expected to be around -50F. Sunday afternoon's Packer game will be around -12F at kickoff. Go Pack, Go!

    Elmer's Geared #5

Thank you Geoff and Stan for the compliments. This engine is by far my best runner. I anticipated possibly having binding issues with the gears so I made a jig to hold everything in alignment when attaching the gear arm to the rotating gear. This ensured that the teeth would mesh perfectly...

    Elmer's Geared #5

Thanks everyone for the compliments. Dave, I'd like to say that I intentionally built it this way but I countersunk the wrong side of the base. This ended up being the biggest (actually only) mistake on this build, so I can't complain.

    Elmer's Geared #5

Thanks Chris. I'm afraid if I slow it down anymore it will start running backwards. Thank you Lathe Nut. The polishing didn't take too long. Only a couple of evenings, which is about all I have patience for. I am getting better surface finishes when machining so it only takes a little...

    Elmer's Geared #5

Here is my completed Elmer's Geared steam engine. It is my sixth Elmer's engine. It runs very well on little air. I can even run it on breath power. The build thread can be found here.

    Elmer's Geared #5

When rounding the ends, I set the radius slightly larger than needed. It gives a little gap between where the radius is completely cut and the cutter hits the straight edge. I also error on the side of coming up short as opposed to going too far. It is easier to file a little off instead of...
