    Parting tool chatter

Parting off always been a bit of an adventure on my mini lathe, sometimes easy, sometimes not so easy. I tend to run slower and lower (just a bit below center) with a T style tool, and maybe some lubrication. I like the idea of running in reverse, I think it would compensate for some slop in...

Do you suppose that there is a flywheel inside of that chunk of laser cut 1" steel plate?

Thanks for the ideas guys - it will be a little while, my "shop" has been turned into a graduation party. Wero - I did actually follow your build and is was good.

    Scotty's Webster

Well, I had some time and I finished the Exhaust and Ignition cams and things are looking good. Now I just need to figure out a flywheel that I can turn out w/ my mini lathe, (yes, I need a find a deal on a bigger better lathe). And my list of engines that I would like to do just keeps...

    TIM-6 ignition > Arduino

The opto-isolator is a good plan and it does allow total isolation. It all depends on the power supply for the TIM, if it has it's own battery then run separate grounds. If the supply shares a ground with the rest of the circuitry, then the grounds are going to be common. If that is the case...

    TIM-6 ignition > Arduino

Unless I am looking at the wrong diagram (or have had one too many beverages), when the hall sensor is "on", it's output goes low and that turns on the LED and also turns on the power transistor causing current through the coil, this builds a magnetic field. When the hall sensor turns off, the...

    Scotty's Webster

I pinned my crankshaft and made a rocker arm. I think I'll make the exhaust cam next and get it all adjusted (and put better washers and spacers on it). I haven't really done much milling on steel, it went surprisingly easy. It is coming along though.

    Hello from Fargo

I hate to admin it, but I have not yet been over to Rollag, I do need to get there. I have enough friends that go and keep telling me about it. Maybe I'm afraid that I would not be able to get out of there. Oshkosh is another one I'd like to get to one of these years. Speaking of Model T's, I...

    Hello from Fargo

Super cool. I have actually seen some of you Demon videos. You have lots of great content! I grew up in Jamestown, went to school in the Fargo area back in '85 and haven't left.

    Hello from Fargo

I've been lurking around here for a bit, but I don't think I did an introduction. I pickup up a HF mini lathe >10 years ago and have access to a bridgeport at work and I learned the basics. I just picked up a HF 33686 mill for a price that I had no choice but to buy it. I have been messing...

    Scotty's Webster

Thanks guys, I had the day off today and my wife was working so I could do what I wanted today :) (just kidding honey) . I cranked out a crankshaft, it turned out nice and square. While I am waiting for my bushing materials I made a couple from a chunk of delrin to find out that things fit...

OK - I liberated a piece of steel and made a new cylinder, should work a little better.

Finished up the con-rod and piston. Now I need to order some metals for the spinny parts.

So I finally have some progress on my Webster so I thought I'd start a post to keep me motivated. I built a few basic steamers and a NGEZ maybe 10 years ago with "OK" results and have had the Webster 4 stroke in mind for quite a while. The kids are older and I have since gained more milling...
