    Remember your first time?

Well I feel really good about this. My friend was so excited about the engine. Today is his birthday but I delivered it yesterday. It was obvious he loved the colors and the design. The big plus was that it was so personalized for him. I also included my drawings and planning sheets for him to...

Grizzly 8178 power feed for theX3 mill. Question

That concept would be totally unknown to me! If I buy it I HAVE to change something on it. Kind of like a dog marking a tree; its how I know its mine ;D

Grizzly 8178 power feed for theX3 mill. Question

When I built my power feed for the X2 I saw that as a problem and designed a sliding coupling to engage / disengage the motor shaft. I use the motor only for long cuts so it stays off most of the time. Should not be too difficult to modify. Here is a link to my build thread. The coupling is...

    Liney RV-2

Very nice indeed. Hope you don't have another long pause. I would like to follow the build on this. Also hope the finger gets better.

    Remember your first time?

We discussed it and he is not interested in getting a boiler. It would run fine but I think I would want to replace the piston if it was going to run very much.

    Remember your first time?

The brass end was almost an after thought. I wanted a collar on the outboard side to set the end play and thought I might as well make it a V groove pulley just for grins. Also thought about putting a gear out there. Flywheel is 3" aluminum. I still have about 10" of 3" diameter stock left...

    Remember your first time?

Yes the valve is very much like the EZ engine. The basic piston valve is pretty easy to design around. Once you know the distance the eccentric will move the valve piston, calculating the port placement and valve spacing is fairly easy. Not the best valve but easy to design and easy to make. The...

    Remember your first time?

.... to give away one of the engines you made. ;D I have a friend who is really excited about model steam engines so I built one for him (sorry, no build thread :( ) It is fairly simple using bits of designs from several others I built. Decided to personalize it with a name plate. His last...

    Analog read out

My solution was a quick and dirty one. Needed something quickly and never went back to make it look nice. Just took a scrap piece of aluminum and a couple of magnets. Milled out a pocket for the magnets and epoxied them in place. I put it on the rail in front or behind the carriage depending...

Army Machinist Heat Treating in Iraq

Good to hear that there are some machinists doing their part to keep things working. I am sure there is no shortage of things to repair. Nice job! BTW; Thanks for serving!! Thm:

    New name plate

I went to the local trophy shop and asked to see what materials they had. They showed me this one and I really liked it. Nickel metal looks really good. Not as shiny as brass or chrome. While it looks printed it is actually engraved and then oxidized to get the dark looking lettering. So it...

Are You Ashamed of Where You Live?

I am thinking we have a lot of members in the witness protection program and their location is secret. The downside to posting your location is that Zeeprogrammer finds out where you live. I have visions of a guy in a Tutu showing up at my front door. That's scary!

    Aquarium air pumps

Dave; That is real interesting. I have seen a lot of sewer tanks as they are very common around here. But I have never heard of an aerating pump for one. Are they common where you are?

Yep. Saved my bacon more than a few times. Thm:

    Aquarium air pumps

Well I got a definitive answer to this. I went down to PetSmart and bought the biggest pump they had. Two outputs at 4.3 psi each and put in a T to join them. It will run my EZ engines (which run on breath power anyway) but not my bigger engines. I will have to admit that it was VERY quiet...

    Aquarium air pumps

Tin / Shred. Thanks for the math. I checked the RPM and my tach says 375 rpm at 10 psi. So, 375 cubic inches per minute (approx) is about .25 cfm (approx) So my volume is OK if I can get enough pressure. Right? Tin; a converted compressor would work. It just needs to be "office friendly". I...

    Aquarium air pumps

Building a small engine for a friend to go in his office. Looking at some of the aquarium air pumps, some add a comment about how quiet they are. Thought that would be perfect to run a single engine. Problem is; what size? Most of them are rated by the size of tank they are for in gallons...

Re: My second engine - the ez2 (running)

The connecting rod is a nice refinement to the design. Looks really nice. Also; nice way to hold smaller parts. Thm:
