    Opposed Twin I.C.

Hi Luc - if that were the case my Aeronca E118 shouldn't run at all ... and its carb is under the engine! <grin> Sounds like you're on to it Brian! Tomorrow should be THE DAY. Charlie

    Transporting Machinery

The location at each end of the trip can have a significant impact on the cost of shipping. If there is regular LTL traffic between them it will be less expensive and vice versa. I'd start with a local (truck) freight company that has national connections to see what they can do. Best price...

    Making your own counterbore

Forgot to suggest that the photos are no longer visible because the hosting account has been closed, the original author removed them ... or any number of other reasons.

    Making your own counterbore

Brian - you might find what you are looking for here: http://www.deansphotographica.com/machining/projects/mill/cbore/cbore.html It's a very compete description (text, photos and guidelines) of making counterbores. I've had good luck with this approach and can recommend it. Here is a photo...

    Opposed Twin I.C.

So close Brian - looking very good! I disagree with this though: "I love learning new stuff, but this cam business has me stretched quite a bit beyond my normal limits!!!" ... you figured it out in the end. You continue to do (and share) things many of us wait for guys like you to do before...

    Very close call

Oh my ... glad you came out (mostly) all right in the end and thank you for reminding all of us of consequences when we don't listen to the voice in our head. That voice is amazingly aware of what we're up to and very could at predicting the outcome ... if we'd only listen AND do something...

Webster Engine re-design & (hopefully) build:

Fascinating insight into the real world of designing-for-manufacture. Thanks for sharing your efforts. I imagine the process would be a good education tool. Shows us how we do this stuff for love not money! Charlie

    EN1A Leaded steel

I've used the exact combination with results on three engines so far. The current build will likely be the same but I might tempted to try steel rings as per a "recent" Model Builder" article - just for a change. Go for it ... Charlie

    Band saw cuts Skew

I can also support the recommendations made to follow John Pitkin's lead. Just last week I finally decided to sort out why my saw would cut fine with a new blade but in short order start to veer off verticle. Turns out that that the machined edge on both wheels was too wide. This was...

    Lathe Types

I'm not the one to define a gunsmith lathe vs any other but I do own a 4003G. The difference seems to be the professed quality of bearings but more obviously the features the gunsmith lathes (from grizzly) come with. For example a "built in" spider on the spindle off-side for ensuring long...

    the cringle engine. virtical steam

Thanks for sharing your progress so far. You have a lot to be proud of based on your results in a relatively short time-frame. A very interesting design that is larger than many of the models se usually see. Well done! Charlie

    Small Diameter Boring Bar

I have had success with turning a chipped tooth slot mill (2 tooth end mill) into a very serviceable boring bar. Most 1/4" or 5/16" slot mills will give you the inch needed. Just means grinding away clearance from the unused (chipped) flute. That's a lot easier than starting from scratch...

    PM Research Engines by Albert

Very, very nice all accounts. The complete steam plant display is well done. I especially like the beautiful wooden bases you've made. I see that you are running the boiler on gas. Could you share some details about the burner please? Can't wait see the next few ... Cheers Charlie
