    Tangential tooling

Yes, I can definitely take a much deeper cut with the tangential tool. Tool height is pretty easy with the tangential holder in a dedicated tool holder. I just made a "shim" of the right thickness such that I turn the holder over on a flat surface with the shim giving the tool bit the correct...

    Tangential tooling

The Eccentric Engineering tangential tool is very nice and easy to sharpen. That is also what Blondihacks uses.

    Compressed air and air drying

The desiccant dryer has a heater tower and blower which blows hot air through the desiccant to restore the desiccant. It is so large I only hit the regeneration button once every year or two. Without the Franzinator etc, I would likely have to regenerate on a frequent basis.

    Compressed air and air drying

Just an automatic drain on your tank with no dryer will mean you have air at 100% humidity at that room temperature/pressure. That assumes you have used things to cool your air and remove moisture. You will likely get condensate at your tool etc because the air will cool as it expands. For...

    Compressed air and air drying

Hi ShopShoe, If you open the pictures, you will see the dimensions. It is made out of black iron pipe and fittings, along with some brass or bronze. Basically whatever I had available. I am in the process of relocating my shop. The best I can do is below. The pipe to the very left of the...

    Compressed air and air drying

Pretty humid where i am; water just pours out of the tank. So I disconnected the compressor plumbing from the tank and instead ran it to the "Franzinator" I built on the wall. It is amazing how much water it separates out by cooling the air and reversing the direction of flow. After going...

Question about putting VFD on a step pulley mill.

Because of also having the back gear, I rarely have to change pulleys on the mill with the VFD. But when it makes sense, I do so.

A little pricey but the KBAC drives like the KBAC-24 are very simple to use.

One that looked like new sold for $3400 and there is another one for sale for $2K and it has a DRO installed. So that price seems very high.

Money to spend on inserts and holder for lathe

The Chinese versions of the Multifix are not extremely expensive and worth the price if you use your lathe much.

Money to spend on inserts and holder for lathe

The Multifix (and clones) have 40 repeatable rotations and I routinely make use of that capability. I have not looked at this link but Abom has one of the larger ones:

Money to spend on inserts and holder for lathe

I just now happened to notice that you removed 1/8" from the QC tool holder. I would have just removed the 1/8" from the insert tools making them 3/8" instead of 1/2". The plus of how you did it is that you only had to do it once. The negative is that you have permanently modified a holder.

    Question on drilling brass parts

I plan on modifying some HF drills for use in brass but for steel, I would much rather buy used good drills than new HF. No comparison at all. I can not tell you the number of times I have used HF drills and had problems but when I switched to a quality drill with the same conditions, it cut...

    Tooling suggestions sought

I actually believe in owning several complete drill sets. And yes, many of the sizes I will never use. But I never know what I will need and where I live, to get a drill in an emergency requires hours of effort if a place is even open. So it depends upon your circumstances. However, I did...

    Lathes

Depending upon how painful the "argument" was, I am actually reasonably impressed that they replaced it twice. Many places would not have. Especially for something sold in that manner. I personally have no experience with the company but everyone I know who has bought from them has been...

    retiring to machinist

Everyone that I know who has bought Precision Matthews equipment has been happy with the equipment and the support. I personally chose to buy good used iron instead - better bang for the buck but it is definitely not the same as buying new. Ken
