    Stuart Triple new build

Worth drilling the cladding holes in the cylinder block (easy to mount) before you get to much sticking out of it

    Stuart Triple new build

One other thing the shaft holding the expansion link arms, drawing says 6 15/16“, make 7 1/4” and trim down when you have the expansion links connected to the valves. Had to be longer on all the ones I have done.

    Stuart Triple new build

Maybe a bit late, but when I made mine I found it needed more than the 1” of thread shown on the drawing I needed 1 1/8” minimum to achieve full movement of the expansion links.

    Stuart triple timing

The two I have built will run without but they definitely run better with the springs If it was running on steam there would not be any benefits

    Stuart triple timing

Adding very light springs to hold the valve against the ports makes running on air a lot better all cylinders work properly

    Stuart triple timing

Timeing a Stuart triple is often considered a black art, this is hopefully shows one of the the problems that I think gets overlooked, the drawings have a note on them stating “if the ports vary from the drawings adjust the length of the valve to suit”. This engine shows exactly why this is...

    Material problem

That’s interesting I also drilled a 9.3mm hole before I turned it round and it did wander even though I had given it a hefty centre drill, it’s for a flywheel so will not need to be structurally stressed

    Material problem

So I have turned the other end and the pattern is mirrored exactly 2” down the bar?it must be a production issue otherwise it would be random

    Hello to you all

The one I have seen had a heating element screwed into a boss in the boiler shell, so the same as a valve or pipe fitting, if you use a circle it has to become part of the pressure vessel shell and would require to be fit for purpose

    Hello to you all

I have never had an electric boiler but I have seen commercially manufactured ones, the safety valve is the most important and I should imagine some sort of electrical safety circuit.

What kind of lathe process would you recommend to make low pressure pneumatic cylinders?

I have made some 1/4” dia ones from KS brass tube, the brass end caps were made interference fit and pressed in with a bit of loctite just in case, fitted with a spring for return, single O ring on a brass piston, shaft from stainless welding rod, hose connector machined in the end cap...
