Lower cost design for a water brake for a dyno.

Tooth belt drive in metric 8 mm or 20 mm race car stuff. These could handle any reasonable load. Aluminum pulleys available from “ good vibrations” racing “

    Hello From Colorado

Welcome to the group I too am retired engineer . Mostly automation but fluid dynamics and structural analysis . Much water under the bridge. Now into giant scale war birds using carbon fiber and molding . Also toolmaker and designer . Med prevents much shop work now but I’m helping my son pick...

    (CAD) 28 Cyl P&W R-4360

Hi ok while I realize that the r 4360 has evenly spaced cylinders and slightly twisted along the centerline axis. What I’m suggesting is coupling 4 7 cylinder engines in line I know this is not exactly scale however I’m looking at the effort to put this all together. Back good number of years...

    (CAD) 28 Cyl P&W R-4360

Years ago ther was a plastic model radial see through engine. I chased this down on the internet but found that the few that still exist are generally in poor shape. If you would like to communicate. Bentwings1@gmail. Com will get to me . Byron

    (CAD) 28 Cyl P&W R-4360

I may have already noted this comment . Last winter I got to visit a museum that happened to have several cut away R 4360 engines. I was amazed at how big the master rod bolts were as well as other fasteners on the engine. Once again, I recommend you carefully consider what a 1/6 size fastener...

Crankshaft for opposed twin 5cc CI aero engine

I might suggest you look at using a hub with three threaded holes this is current practice on our Rc engines and electric motors props are usually 6 mm holes with three short grub screws to prevent prop or spinner slippage long threaded bolts and studs at relatively old fashion to put it “...

    Engine Design basic questions

I went the other way I started out as machinist then to tool maker maker then mech Eng school for 5-6 years actually longer as I got into deeper physics along the way I did auto mechanics part time so tools and their use became second nature. Surprisingly kids now day don’t know standard tools...

    Lawrence Merlin V12

I wouldn’t go wit h operating magnetos . Whether they would even work is problematic . Wimpy purchase a 12 cyl electronic ignition from C&H ignitions and be done with it.

Aluminum vs steel exhaust, specifically radial collector rings

TIG is not something you simply pick up the torch and piece of wire filler. It takes patience and practice then some knowledge of material and tungsten More advanced machines have more features to learn to use I worked in shops without all the bells and whistles yet managed to pass all the...

Aluminum vs steel exhaust, specifically radial collector rings

I’ve used the tuned pipe manifolds and headers shown in aluminum with glow engines. These held up pretty well . But repair if needed even though I’ve been around precision TIG for a long time is nearly impossible once glow fuel gets in them . Cleaning is the issue . TIG requires perfectly...

Aluminum vs steel exhaust, specifically radial collector rings

I do a number of top fuel race car headers in stainless if you use one level higher numerically than the base level material you usual don’t have trouble if you back fill . It’s expensive as you can use incredible amount of argon on 2 1/2” dia systems I did a lot of industrial finiky...

    US State Boiler Code

Very interesting I had called a local heating company and was referred over several transfers to some boiler inspection department. The guy tol me that as long as I was going electric heat I did not need inspection . It was too small for them to bother with . They said I could not use a fuel...

Aluminum vs steel exhaust, specifically radial collector rings

I’ve been in Rc aircraft since it began warbird were my thing so scale functioning exhaust was considered the cats meow. TIG welding thin aluminum tube in tight quarters is very hard . I switched to copper tube and standard fittings by careful trimming you c 60% ofvthe weight off copper welds...

    Mini Tube bender.

Try getting some cero bend low melting point metal McMaster carr has several. It’s no real expensive . You fill the tube with it bend it then if you used the real low temp stuff you just put the tube in boiling water and It flows out leaving a nice bend . I YHINK you can get it on Amazon too .

Building a twin cylinder inline i.c. engine.

Going another direction, ther we’re sever model plane in line twins years remember right they had a knuckle joint in the crank forvthe cylinders I think there was a pressed in pin for rods these were two stroke glow engines . I can’t even remember the brand O.S I think was one they are very...
