Lets talk about Crankshafts--Machine, built up, etcetera

Are you referring to the metric tolerancing charts? If so H7\h7 is more of a slip fit tolerance as the hole always has a -0 for the low limit\ and the shaft always has a +0 for it's upper limit. A N7\n7 chart is probably closer to the press fit he's talking about. Disregard this if I'm...

    Surface plate

Has anyone tried a piece of granite or marble flooring? I've been tempted to buy a couple of pieces to see how flat they are. They are around $2.5 for a 12"X12" square around ¼ to ⅜ thick. I thought maybe they'd make a good sanding plate or small scribe table if they are flat.

    Taig lathe mods

When I mentioned that I wanted to use an er16 holder for my tailstock I assumed I could buy live or dead centers that would fit it. After doing some web surfing I've realized I was wrong. If there are any options there aren't very many of them. Mt2 taper it is. My initial idea for locking...

    Taig lathe mods

To be honest with you wizard, I originally designed it to be much more rigid. I then drew it up to scale and it was giant compared to the lathe itself. 3/4 seemed small to me at first but honestly I think it scales with the work I can do on this lathe. I calculated the weight of this design...

    Taig lathe mods

Because I already own one lol. I have a SB 9 x 15, and I can use the 13 and 15 inch lathes at work. After making a small Stirling engine on a large lathe I realized I could use something a little smaller. Plus I want something i can put in a desk in the office and play around with. You...

    Taig lathe mods

I recently decided that I am going to purchase a Taig mini lathe. Even though I'm not planning on making the purchase till the end of the year I want to plan out, and possibly even build some modifications, so that they are ready when the machine arrives. My first project is to hopefully...

    building a Pulse EDM Machine

Copper tungsten has good wear rates and machining isn't too bad. Can't wait to watch the project in progress.

Setting up Shop Questions - from an NZ learner

Nice job so far. I wish I could weld like that! It would be nice to have the chip tray at standing level like that. I have to bend over to the floor to clean out my trays at work, and that gets old fast. Only thing I'm noticing is the tray is pretty shallow and certain types of chips like to...

My go at the Holly Buddy

Thanks for the information. Glad to get that dimension before I knew I needed it lol! I had a similar process in mind as you when it comes to fitting the assembly together. Only difference is I'm planning on fitting the prop driver to the assembly while it is in the lathe so I don't have to...

My go at the Holly Buddy

Thank you for the compliments! I'm in the process of drawing a solid model in fusion 360 so that I can better understand the ports. ED, is there a certain clearance you aim for between the nose and the prop drive?

    Auto reverse mechanism

Front view of the arm. As you can see there are 2 rails for it to slide along.

    Auto reverse mechanism

In the second picture down you can see that the slider block had a bearing bolted into the end of it. You can see that the bearing is inside of a vertical slot of another block(I'll call this the arm). In the first and 3rd pictures you can see that the arm is sitting freely on a shaft and able...

    Stirling Alpha - CLUELESS

Some other people on her may be able to help you with any design problems they see, but one thing I noticed with my engine is any type of friction is a killer on these things. As I spun my flywheel by hand I couldn't feel any noticeable spots, but when I would heat the engine up it would stop...

Would something like this be what your looking for? If the pictures don't show you how it works I'll try to explain.

    BAZMAK-DIARY of a NEW SIEG SC4 LATHE

Some future add ons that could be handy. A screw on handle, so you have better control when turning it. Also an adjustable hard stop would maybe be nice so you could stop your rotation at a place of your choosing.

My go at the Holly Buddy

I decided to try and make the Holly Buddy engine. It's going to be my first IC engine, and with it's well designed simplicity I figured it would be a good stepping stone. I started with the crank case. It slipped my mind to take pictures of the work in progress, so my only pictures are with...

    BAZMAK-DIARY of a NEW SIEG SC4 LATHE

Nice mods! You can tell by the finishes that you've spent some time on them. Did you put the screws in at an angle on your boring bar tool post? Does that radius cutter pivot on a bearing?
