    Eagle

EDM has been around for 50 0r 60 years. If the tap is 000 or something, the a diamond point is tough, but if it is 4 or larger, you can use diamond just fine. If you have a mill, you can generally use a carbide drill too. I had forgotten that in my prior post. But heat and a tap remover is...

    Eagle

you have a chance of getting a broken tap in aluminum out three ways: 1. alum 2. heat to 400 or so deg and use a tap extractor - the aluminum will expand a lot more than the steel 3. diamond drill point and a high speed drill (dremel, etc) with lots of water for lubriction - just cut the flutes...

    Silver soldering stainless

the word "silver solder" spans two really different things - a high silver lead/tin solder used for electronics, and what is sometimes called "hard" solder that has no lead or tin it's silver and some other metals. If you fix Tek oscilloscopes, you use the former, if you make jewlery use the...

so glad this book got to where it could be used. When I get to laying out the big pile of random model parts I saved from my friend's estate, I may need to buy it back, but first to figure out what I have, and that comes after getting enough room to even think about it.....

For Sale Books on making engines and basic machine shop techniques

I am still working on selling off items from the estate of a good friend of mine who died at the end of 2020 - there are many things I'd like to keep, but his overwhelming collection of stuff has taught me to be much more selective - these books are ones that I think might interest this...

Bates & Edmonds gas engine electric plant

I guess I'm still curious.... those analog meters are typically about 5% accurate, or of course using a known resistance as the load you only need to measure voltage - do you get 33W? or is it closer to 10W?? I'm just curious, there is no actual use of making the measurement.... thanks

Bates & Edmonds gas engine electric plant

that's a beautiful job.... I have a question, the answer to which might enhance your story - since you have a generator attached, if it's 1/8 scale it ought to be able to produce 17/8 = 2.125 KW, but of course power doesn't scale linearly - can you increase the load on the generator and (since...

Engine sucks but will not blow

I'm having something of a problem seeing how this can happen - Idon't understand the engine configuration so it's hard to tell what to look for specifically, but if you have sealed off the top of the cylinder, on compression the gas must go somewhere. here are some thoughts I don't know how...

    Electric car plant

to riff on that interesting concept, start with Hieronemous Bosch's Tryptich, garden of earthly delights- add seed money since trees grow from seeds, add blood and toil to represent the labor, the painting represents clearly the marketplace, and the tryptich is painted on wood, so there's your...

    Electric car plant

an interesting discussion is whether it is more efficient environmentally to use a device (like the lawnmower up thread) that pollutes more than a new one but is already built (and therefore has no marginal cost of construction) versus replacing with new. it is more than a dollars argument if...

MQL system (compare to fog buster)

one thing to consider is that the mist is not good for you to breathe, so you want positive ventilation to take the mist and the vaporized oil from the work away rather than filter the air through your lungs.

Single Phase To Three Phase Rewind - Lathe Uprate

a hint on the Tach for those following along - I personally don't like a magnet sticking out like that for several reasons, but there are alternatives - On my Logan lathe, I used an inductive pickup reading the teeth on the bull-gear, and then a RedLion counter/tachometer to display the result -...

Wanted I need a part made...

I'm not going to argue, it's not my car. I have seen the manifolds on one of my cars turn bright orange. if there had been aluminum in that area it most assuredly would have melted. I would not put aluminum in the exhaust headers. The reason the head doesn't melt is that it is water cooled...

    Springs and things

these little machines were made in the 60s for making springs, you don't have to stress relieve them, they extrude the coils to final size. the last photo shows the machine in the first photo after "beautification"
