Temperature of the exhaust of model engine

Silver solder which jewelers use of cheap, easy to use, and flows at temperatures easily reached by propane torches. You may want to consider that, and it's not toxic and easy to get, including in a paste form mixed with flux. 1600 t9 2900 deg f

Aladdin's cave of machines to dispose of - help needed

based on my experience selling off an estate with at least 100 times more stuff, you are much better off if you have the time to part out everything - there is almost nothing, including a perfect machine that is worth more assembled than parted out - at least if it is a recognizable brand - the...

    Drafting linen

I abandoned about 300 pounds of vellum at a friend's estate, nobody wanted anything to do with it. I'd expect you will be able to find as much as you want at a very low price. 100 years from now when the supply from the 1960s finally runs out, then it will become expensive.

    interesting museum... Carlsbad CA (USA)

well, it's not that long a drive - it's a long day, but if you leave early or late and don't get snarled in traffic, you can stop in Quartsite and paw through rocks and then keep going to the coast. I've made the drive a bunch of times for vacations - including visiting the caverns.

    interesting museum... Carlsbad CA (USA)

that's the wrong Carlsbad - the museum is in California, not New Mexico - Carlsbad Ca is just south of Oceanside, (which is at the southern end of Camp Penelton marine base) - it is between San Diego and Los Angeles on the coast.

For Sale Micrometer type Carriage stop for lathe? Mill?

nice micrometer style carriage stop - not sure what it was originally designed to fit, it works well. the stop part is on the hex head just past the micrometer piece. the threads that are external to the casting are corroded (I cleaned them up) as you can see, the threads inside the casting...

you are welcome to think what you will about patentability. your thoughts to not align with my personal experience. However you are correct that the $$ is related to defending the patent. Big companies collect patents in part to defend themselves as much as to use the patent.

    North Carolina

FWIW, I have about a dozen patents (some listed on my website, some not) - I usually do my own patent search first, www.uspto.gov. I don't pay for, nor do I get paid much for, these patents, but I do get a cool plaque certifying that the US government agrees that I once had an original idea...

Newbie needs advice about a lathe

note, if you are using a DC motor that the motor's top speed ocurrs when the back EMF is equal to the applied voltage (this is for an ideal motor with no friction or losses, a real motor will be close but not quite equal).

Newbie needs advice about a lathe

FWIW, I have a 12 inch lathe, it has a reeves drive and dual drive belts from a 2 HP 3 phase motor to the reeves drive. the belt will slip in back gear when tapping 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 inch holes, depending on the particular steel I end up using. at the other end, when I am reducing the diameter...

    Making a distributor cap

if this is a full scale model, it might be worth checking with the Morgan clubs, there are active 3-wheeler clubs (one is near me) - I have a 4-wheeled one. there are also some smaller production engines with distributor caps - if you were to find one that met your needs aesthetically, it might...

    Making a distributor cap

instead of phenolic, I think you should consider FRP, you can build it up and cut it with carbide tools and it is commonly used in high voltage applications. There are also machinable ceramics that you can machine to what you want, and then you heat them to make them hard and rather strong. and...

    Briesch Steam Hammer

I may or may not have some drawings, I had a casting (sold it) and I left the other piece that looks like a cannon at the estate thinking it was part of a toy cannon. all that stuff that I left at the estate is gone, but I do have paper related to some models and I have a box or two of model...

    Deep Drilling In aluminum block

DON'T confuse a 20,000 pound CNC mill with what you or I have at home (I have a 3500 pound mill with 6 HP spindle, it will drill straight for a while). If you rotate the drill, any error becomes a misalignment along the axis of the DRILL'S ROTATON, and you go off center. If you rotate the...

    Deep Drilling In aluminum block

why would you use a ball end mill? that just seems so wrong - a side cutting end mill on a rotary table maybe - can you explain what I'm missing here?
