    EDM help

I drilled some broken taps out with small carbide ball endmills (this will ruin at least one or two of the endmills  ) it takes a long time and might ruin the part for good if the carbide gets stuck. Can I re-do the part in less time than the tap removal takes? -> scrap box. Start over. If...

Need advice and help : A remote display caliper

How much do the things from your picture cost? Why not glas encoders? What do you want to use it for? I made one DIY touch DRO last week, just because I saw it somewhere and wondered if it was doable. If you can get hold of the electronics components and an Android tablet, you can get it...

    Tabletop CNC

I did not question if it makes sense to use a CNC lathe :) The concept is advertised in every CNC lathe commercial. Just to make the point I add the random pick! (two to threehundredthousandusdollars and you can buy a machine) Some additional budget for software, training andor technical...

    Tabletop CNC

The original goal was to create eccentric and not round features (aka cam), possibly many of the cam on one piece (cam shaft). I still do not understand what the electronic lead screw can help to solve this task, just asking. :)

    Tabletop CNC

I see 4th axis and electronic lead screw suggestions. How to program all this is a mystery to me. (not willing to spend the "big bucks" :-) ). How to do the camCAM for the 4th axis is a big bottle neck.

    Tabletop CNC

I disagree: :) I think to learn some computer skills is not "out of limits, even with no existing background".... but.... yes it will become an "all consuming hobby", it will eat up lots of the time and energy. ... and some people will find out that this "is not for them" and give up. (...

    Tabletop CNC

I wonder if a 3d printed "template cam" (how is it called? ) can work on this kind of grinder? That would solve the CNC portion of the Task, because lot of people have access to it.

    Tabletop CNC

Making a router just for cutting cams sounds "overkill". How about a "Toolpost mill". Milling spindle on the toolpost of the lathe . You need two axis to move the spindle up-down and in-out and keep the part stationary. Or you need one encoder on the spindle and only the cross slide moves...

    3D printer stepper driver selection

Haha, how do you know that the driver is "overkill". Maybe the printer weights 3838.34454kg has a build volume of 1x1.3x2 m and obscene accelleration.

    3D printer stepper driver selection

A little more information about your current setup would be nice. a) because we are curious what printer you are running. b) maybe someone can give you a better advise, based on the existing setup. My stepper drivers are very quiet, but the cooling fans are noisy....

    Budget HSS lathe tool grinder

Haha, I never understand the use of treadmill motors. For me industrial motors (at cost) are more easy to find. ;) I get the impression that ( most?) treadmills are produced and shipped around the globe just to provide motors. Doctor to patient: "You are overweight, you should stop eating...

    Budget HSS lathe tool grinder

You can make your own belt sander. I was inspired by this video, made the size to fit the belts that I can easily buy. I think I spent at the end almost as much as for buying one. Greetings Timo p.s. you do not need any castings. Welding the structure worked. Screwing it together would have...

    Strange reamer designations

IRS must have something to do with money... https://www.irs.gov/  On the photo I see a 1RS (so maybe just a pun, I could not help it).

    Printer problem

You got me there. Haha! Did not see this parameter nor was I aware it exists. But this is obviously disabled :) on my Cura. (which I updated today coming from 5.1 ) I was not aware of the mixture of machine parameters and process data. Obviously some printers are having fairly aggressive...

    Printer problem

Usually the acceleration is specified in the firmware of the printer, not in the slicer software. Probably threre is no setting for the acceleration in Cura. But, ... often the normal movements stay below the maximum acceleration. On my printer when there was one "bad move" were it wanted to...

Mini Lathe Issues and Concept Execution

Would it be still a lathe? Not that it matters that much.

    Nasty collets

Buying garbage is part of our hope to find a treasure . Worst case, I do not want to accept the loss and start "fixing" it. Problem is that returning things is often more expensive (time, money and lost trust in mankind) than just accepting the loss. I bought some collets that were 80USD...

Mini Lathe Issues and Concept Execution

Deleted once again! The OP was asking his questions 8 (almost 9) years ago! I hope he solved his problem in the mean time, but it was never revealed  if, or how.

Melting steel with a backyard furnace.

That thing looks interesting, I hope they deliver what they claim  30:1 is quite nice for a home foundry. The laser just shows what you are roughly pointing at (red dot in the pic). The laser has no business in the measurement it is just an aiming aid. The IR detector reads everything...

Melting steel with a backyard furnace.

These colour cards, when referenced (confirming the guess with a measurement) from time to time, you can get you surprisingly close with rough "guessing" based on colour. Experience plays a big role and iron makers did not have Electronic measurement devices for quite some time. Contemporary...
