Another (unsure) Upshur twin (lots of beginner questions?)

A few minor changes I am taking the feedom to do. e.g. using my existing metric tooling. (the adapter will stay). POM machines quite nice, it will stay probably round enough. Will use a bar of black POM to make the cap.

Another (unsure) Upshur twin (lots of beginner questions?)

I necked down some Endmill to cut the lower cam lobe. Chatter was not good, made some big marks on the part and during the 2nd approach broke off the DIY cutter. I ended up with something that looks like a cam shaft, but might not be one. ( I will see) p.s. it is make from cold rolled...

raspii and Jasonb you saved me a lot of head scratching.

Another (unsure) Upshur twin (lots of beginner questions?)

This is probably some feature that would not have made it into the original plan, because it is supposed to be doable wiht a lathe and drill press only. Making those slots would be difficult. But my cap will probalby milled anyway, so slot design is likely happening. I cam across a small omron...

Another (unsure) Upshur twin (lots of beginner questions?)

😥 maybe I should go sleep and look into that another day, mixing up the camshaft and crankshaft all the time. (maybe because I have no clue about it ). Part2 breather cap. Cancel the breather tube and will thread the top plate for it. if it does look too much like a steam dome (because of size)...

Another (unsure) Upshur twin (lots of beginner questions?)

You are correct the crank shaft is not 0.25" (do not know how I came to this) So far crank shaft change to 8 mm. (that makes the adapter plate "useless" ) I made two new adapters, (one is lost forever in the chip tray of the lathe, or under the lathe or somewhere) the other is on the...

Another (unsure) Upshur twin (lots of beginner questions?)

I am not really confident, that this will not become a never finished item. I decided to start anyway. I also took the decision to start a parallel thread, because I do not want to clutter up Brian Rupnows thread. I am following video series by Andrew whale and since April Brian Rupnow. (never...

Not an engine! More a "function model" of a machine.

I guess the lifting weight is limited by the strength of the typical Lego Mini figure :) and the rope. Anchor bolts are M2 threaded into the wood base directly (good enough). The original (or typical others) had no counter weight there is a long column in the middle taking the load into the...

Be silent or protest...in Forum !!

Haha that is mean in "one of the comments". Let me guess (without context), GreenTwin was refering to control voltage for field equipment. Coils for valves, motorized valves, small blower fans and such things. 220V or 110V. Is lower AC voltage in use? Greetings Timo

Definitely not quiet in this case, as it would have been easy to "catch the wrong fish" in the internet for me. :) The drill blanks are HSS all hardened ready to be "converted into a drill" (or boring bar, dovetailcutter etc.), the price difference (to a drill) is only 20 Ct or so, so no point...

Be silent or protest...in Forum !!

If I am getting upset about something "false" for fact or in my view ( sometimes can be blurry, a misunderstanding or I am plain wrong ), I try to stay silent. :cool:Me beeing upset does not make it easy to stay "neutral, diplomatic, polite and respectful". So I try my best to "shut up and bear...

    Upshur's opposed twin engine

Here 8mm drill rod is for a 114 mm length almost same price as the drill, more expensive than a cheap drill. I think here "drill rod" is not same thing. https://www.suspt.com.tw/drill-blanks-b-102.html

    Fowler BB Ploughing Engine (unfinished)

Pulling the plough. Two engines: One on each side. That is why it is "unfinished" because AlanS will need to built another one. :D Just getting aware how detailed the model ist. Really funtastic.

I have the plans to follow along since today. Did you see the videos from UK?

Actually never started  on a shay. But I was planning on it. (quite postponed at the moment to be honest). But not cancelled.

My riff on the Upshur Twin

I would guess. The weight will be higher and the heat transfer might be different. Maybe it matters if you want to run the engines at high power for longer time? Usually all the aircraft model engines I saw ( as a spectator, never owned one) were made out of Aluminium.

My riff on the Upshur Twin

Thanks for the insight. 6061-T6 is much easier to buy for me, so I never got hold of any 7075-T6. The 6061-T6 machines very O.K. (I admit I broke few endmills, with built up, operator mistakes )

What a factory! When you did make the crank case out of one block. how did you fix the cylinders? Is the crank case out of Aluminium? Nice fotos! Greetings.

    Seal in Cat

This is really amazing. Are there any plans for this track system, or a similar track system? Or did you have to make it all by yourself. Are the single plates bolted to the chain with 4 nuts and bolts? 30x4x2 nuts and bolts?

Thank you all for commenting. Comments keep me encouraged too. I thought this would be a project I could do in a weekend. Haha fooled myself, yet again, alone making the designt took longer and then making all the parts. Having quite a few "stuck"projects around were I lost interest or coming...
