    A Commercial Foundry Sand Mixer

I added some shelves on one side of the molding shop, since the bound molds have to be places on a very flat surface after they set, else they will warp a tiny bit; just enough to cause a mold leak, if they don't stay perfectly flat for about 30 minutes after set time. .

    A Commercial Foundry Sand Mixer

Bound sand can be reused, but it has to be ground up, and then the resin burned out. I don't try to reuse my molds, but I have saved a lot of them, and am considering grinding them up and using them as resin-bound backing sand, and use new resin-bound sand as facing sand (I think a common...

    A Commercial Foundry Sand Mixer

These are typical molds I made for the green twin engine, made with the above mixer. .

    A Commercial Foundry Sand Mixer

I have seen some in this "hobby" invest heavily in some very expensive lathes, mills, and other machining equipment. I have a very modest Grizzly lathe, mill, and tooling, which I inherited, so no cost. I have put my hobby money into building a commercial-grade iron foundry, and while that has...

    A Commercial Foundry Sand Mixer

This is the used kitchen sand mixer I purchased, to mix foundry sand. .

George Vontorne's propane tank sand muller

I like working with steel, since it is infinitely cutable/weldable/bendable. I fabricated most of my foundry tools, and if somthing does not work correctly, I just cut it off, fabricate something new, and weld it on. I use a lot of those thin disks, and I have seen photos of pieces of them...

Single Cylinder Opposed 2 Piston Engine

I really like seeing engines come together and run well. I have had a number of false starts on engine builds, where things never came together, and the build failed. I have only succeeded with on engine (so far), and so I really appreciate those who make it look so easy. Great work, and a nice...

    Cyclone dust collector

As HMEL mentions about residual fine particle dust going into the shop, I intend to use a cyclone/shop vac in series, and then pipe the output of the shop vac out through the wall, at least when I am sandblasting. The super-fine particles are the ones you really don't want to breathe, and don't...

    Sandblaster!!!

That is actually pretty good welding for thin-walled muffler pipe. .

George Vontorne's propane tank sand muller

I commercial kitchen mixer works with clean new sand, but may jam if used sand and potential slag is mixed in it. There is a crank to lift the blowl up and down. I fill it with the bowl up. Commercial kitchen mixers are not cheap. I bought a used one, and even then it was not cheap. If I had...

George Vontorne's propane tank sand muller

I know a lot of folks who mull/mix in batches, including myself. My mixer container is about the size of 1/2 of a propane tank. Batch mixing works well, and keeps the muller/mixer a manageable size. I am not sure if it is in the design, but some sort of safety mechanism is really neaded with a...

    2024 Indiana model engine show

Can you post on this map where we pull in for unloading, and where we park for the event. Need details, since I am no spring chicken these days, and can't do it if there are obstacles. Thanks .
