I don't think I have ever seen an IC engine like that. Nice work ! .

Casting fun at the Northpine Trades Guilde

It is great to see someone making their own castings. Its a bit tricky to get the method(s) down, but once you do, you can make some great castings. Those are respectable casting you have made. I learn a bit more about foundry work with every video I watch. Brass has always been a nightmare for...

Tell her you have no idea what that odor is.......... No doubt it must be caused by climate change............ .

    Powder painting a flywheel

I would try it and see if it works. Your thermometer may not be calibrated. .

Formulas for calculating the bore and stroke of a diesel engine

As Peter mentions, the formulas for pressure and temperature have been posted, but I would guess those are approximate values only, and you would get some static snapshot of what is happens in the combustion chamber at some instant, but some unknown instant ? Could be at the moment of ignition...

George Vontorne's propane tank sand muller

I found this flask on a website called "Universal Welding & Engineering". You don't need crossbars in both directions for your application (in my opinion); just the short dimension. .

George Vontorne's propane tank sand muller

The large flasks shown in the old books had flush crossbars spanning the short dimension of the flask. The crossbars were either screwed in after the flask was rammed, or more likely, the sand was just rammed with the crossbars in place. A crossbar spacing of perhaps 3 or 4" should work. I am...

Formulas for calculating the bore and stroke of a diesel engine

A Detroit Diesel 671 engine has a 4.25" bore, and a 5" stroke, 18.7 : 1 compression ratio. So the bore stroke ratio is 0.85 : 1. Assuming this is a pretty typical bore/stroke ratio for a diesel, then just pick what you want your bore to be. An example with a 2" bore, using the above ratio, then...

Perhaps pour a bit hotter than normal, and sacrifice a bit of surface finish. You can also try a knife gate on one or both long sides. I don't do plaques, but it seems like I have seen the knife gate used on them. .

    Offy 270 plans, still available?

Lets keep it civil folks. Take up your personal discussions via personal messages, email, or somewhere else beside the open forum. Lets stick to model engine building. Life is too short for this sort of thing; drop it, move on, and focus on building engines, or discussing how to build engines...

    Request - Injector designs

And some diesels have a fuel return line, going to the fuel tank. If you have enough large diesels connected to a fuel tank, you can actually overheat the tank. We had to install a chiller on the return fuel line, for the local 20MW power plant. I assume a Detroit Diesel injector does not have...

Single cylinder air blast injection diesel engine

Very interesting engine; thanks for posting those drawings. Sorry to hear that you were not able to finish your engine build. .

According to this advertisement, there was an addendum to the plans, to improve the engine. .

    Request - Injector designs

I have been casually following along with this injector thread, and have read it all once, but still not sure I understand how a typical injector works as far as varying flow and /or timing. If varying the flow affects timing, then how does an injector like a Deroit Diesel injector vary...
