Fixing an old lathe with spindle "droop"

As you say it is difficult to do any machining when you don't have an accurate lathe to use. Perhaps if you join your local Model Engineering club or enrolling for a hobby shop course at your local college would give you access to good machinery. I have restored 4 old lathes and where necessary...

know anyone who can fix this or does this type of service?

Take your point Werowance, I have no idea what an Antique Milk Shake mixer is. I spun end caps for a boiler recently in 1/8" copper. It was my first attempt and by watching Youtube I soon got the feel for doing it. Very satisfying and a good result. I made the formers out of MDF mounted on a...

know anyone who can fix this or does this type of service?

Hi, Could new ones be 3D printed? I am sure there are people on here who could do it. My 3D printer is in UK and I am in the USA until Xmas otherwise I would have a go. I recently printed a dummy boiler cover for my 5" gauge electric Rainhill loco and I am very happy with it. Good Luck B

Hello G Jones, Welcome aboard the making stuff wagon. I was afflicted with this journey when I was 10 years old and now at 73 I still look for challenges and opportunities to explore the way. At present, I am beginning to explore 3D printing and I am pleased to say getting there albeit slowly...

New Shop layout - advice sought

Hello Tamey, This is a good opportunity to have a great workshop from day 1. The previous correspondents have all offered good advice, and I would agree with all of them, in addition, I would add overhead airlines on recoil units, and a small sink with running water. A compressor is always...

    Online old engine(s) auction.

Varies from state to state, in Florida it is best if you both go to the Tax Collectors office and do the paperwork together. When buying from a dealer they will sort it on line and issue a temporary plate if required. The important thing is that tax is paid!!!!

This is an interesting thread, my first regret is swopping my 1948 Corgi (Mk 1) motorcycle for a drilling machine My first car was a 1949 Sunbeam Talbut 80 which I sold for scrap in 1965 (Owned it for 2 years bought for £20) My 1955 MG Magnette went to Germany for £37 when I sold it to a friend...

    Myford's metal lathes

Those desalination plants produced "water" that tasted awful until you chilled it then it tasted ok, perhaps the ice would have been a good idea after all. I think that I drank quite a lot of beer, but can't remember that well.

    Myford's metal lathes

We are tight because of the cost of the hobby these days. Sometimes I feel we are being ripped off by the suppliers, any suppliers on here care to respond??

PRICE for MYFORD SUPER 7 PLUS LATHE

There was one last year on Craigslist in Tampa Florida, it was a late model with lots of accessories and was advertised for US$10,450. Initially, I thought that's a bit steep, but given the amount of equipment with the machine and that it was only listed for 7 days perhaps I am wrong. I luv my...

    Can some one help me

Hello Steve, I use a Chinese made horizontal bandsaw (I think it is 4 1/2" cut) fitted with a bi metal variable tooth blade which I find is best for longevity and accuracy of cut. I possess numerous hand held hacksaws and find the old fashioned Eclipse frame with a wooden handle (Like a file...

    Surface Grinder and Shaper

I am jealous, I have always wanted (Not needed!!) a small surface grinder. The hand cranked small Adept shaper I have is a pleasure to use, but doesn't get used a lot. Good luck with the moving. B
