    Powder paint for model engines

No problem, Brian; wish I had more info or personal experience, but not yet (I do have a toaster oven for tempering, so I have part of the setup).

    Powder paint for model engines

Quinn (Blondiehacks) has been using Eastwood’s powder coat kit and powder from a number of sources. Try dropping her an email/message through her YT channel - now that she’s back in Canada she may have some local-ish sources.

    Machinability Charts (and a challenge)

That’s a ceramic material that would have a significantly lower machinability rating.

    Hello all

Welcome, Rob; hope you have good experiences. Just remember that we all learn by asking questions and mis-steps along the way are expected & part of the process. What’s your location? Charlie

    Machinability Charts (and a challenge)

While I mostly work in 6061, 12L14/15, 1018, 1144, 4130 and Acetal, every once in a while something comes up with a different recommended material. In order to make an informed decision between the alternatives I'll do a little research which includes looking at machinability. To assist with...

    What's Happening in Chazz's Shop?

More Hardware Storage I found unused wall space in the "Dry Goods Storage Pantry:" You know what they say, "Nature Abhors a vacuum." 2 Bolt Depot Racks, 9 Plano Boxes from Amazon (plus a leftover Bolt Depot box), 8 TapCons and I can finally put away the extra hardware I bought when I added...

Air cooled red wing from PM Research

Since my "use" of spark coils is for demonstration purposes, I think I'll stick with my modified Model-T Coil (from Eckler's) and a larger, Induction Coil (from Sci-Supply): The Induction Coil can produce up to 50KV @ 10VDC, whereas the Model-T Coil is more like 20KV @ 12VDC. I added binding...

Air cooled red wing from PM Research

Thanks! More costly than I expected, but maybe I can just buy the innards. However, I bought a K-W Model-T Coil 5 years ago for $100, now they're $200, so maybe not that far out of line. Some of their bits & pieces (like point sets) are higher than elsewhere, but I don't know how much of a break...

Air cooled red wing from PM Research

Could you provide a link (or contact info) for the place in Lamar? Among other interests, I like to dabble with HV. Thanks!

Air cooled red wing from PM Research

Very nice, Pamela! Did you make the spark coil from scratch or reassemble a purchased one into a new box?

Best cheap ish lathe for this?

A Sherline Tabletop Lathe (there should be similar lathes in the UK) will take 8” between centers, but they’re not cheapish. A 7x12 Mini-Lathe can be found for a range of prices, but the low end ones will require a lot of work to make them usable for most applications (and the high end ones can...

    New to the forum

Welcome Deezil (& Pamela)! I have purchased from and called Sherline a number of times over the ladt 10-ish years so we may have spoken (I have a Micromark Sherline-clone mill and a Mini-Mill so much of the Sherline tooling is a good fit). Enjoy the Forum, Charlie

Index to Model Engineer, Model Engineering Workshop and Engineering in Miniature

My 3-level "Computer Glasses" (ground so I can see three distances, closest for the laptop, medium for the wide screen and furthest for the monitor with my email; I also have the ceiling fixture above the workstation turned off): have a blue-light filter, so not an issue, and all of my screens...

One of the reason the Mac was so successful when introduced: contrast of black lettering/lines on a white background is significantly easier to read. Anyone having issues may need to adjust the brightness of their monitor/screen.

    What's Happening in Chazz's Shop?

Metal & Plastic Stock (More Labels!!) Didn't reorganize, just re-discovering, so I added labels: I kind of knew what was in each bin/box, but this may make it easier.

    Online Metals Flat Rate Shipping

Yes, their “Proto Boxes” are made up of off cuts; I was thinking that if they allow walk-ups you could pick what you want from those off cuts. You’re right about the info they have available, it saves time looking in multiple places to learn about the different materials.

    Online Metals Flat Rate Shipping

One advantage of buying from Online Metals is that you don’t pay extra shipping if your order comes from multiple locations; back before McMaster included shipping in your cart I was bitten by this as they charge actual (-ish) shipping and I paid more than I thought reasonable. However, when I...
