    Sleeve questions

Thanks, I’ll look it over. I love helping kids that’re looking into engineering projects, I wish my own grandkids would show an interest. I’ve built several small LTD Stirling engines as “kits” for kids to assemble and have given them to dads to help, and it’s always enjoyable to see the...

    Sleeve questions

Is the STL for the 3d printed Baldy available somewhere? I’ve got a friend whose son would like to have a small air engine, and I love printing stuff for kids to put together. Thanks in advance, John W

    Stuart 10V - Missing Part I.D.

Now THAT was really something! Enjoyed it immensely and would love to do this type of work. I found it interesting that he went to a flux core to weld up the spacers rather than the usual gas interface. Save a buck where you can!!! Thanks for sharing, John W

    Horizontal Twin

Beautiful work Ray! Congratulations on another sweet engine. John W

    Trembler Coils--(Constant spark)

Yep, I built my ignition system on the Kitchen Sink Engine with a flattened .223 case and a flat spring with a single roll pin as the cam! Crude as hell but it works. 😆 John W

    Trembler Coils--(Constant spark)

Brian, I built one of the “buzz coil” systems you’re describing as an alternate to the original Model T coil I have for my “kitchen sink” engine. Performance wise, it is every bit as hot as the model T coil and ran the engine well. Cheap to make and parts are readily available at any...

Henry Ford's Kitchen Sink Engine (my version)

Once again, nicely done Ray! Clean AND a runner, can’t beat that. John W

Henry Ford's Kitchen Sink Engine (my version)

Runs great! Now you’re ready to build the Quadracycle!!! Congratulations Ray!!! John W

    Odds & Ends engine

I haven’t built it yet, currently working on Rudy’s non-compression engine, but once that’s done I’ll probably start on it. I’ll watch your troubleshooting closely! John W

Henry Ford's Kitchen Sink Engine (my version)

Probably issues with the swing valve seat. Even after improving the intake valve spring, I was having leakage so I marked the seat and valve with Prussian blue and improved the seal with some careful sanding and polishing. It’s a tricky little devil, good luck! John W

Henry Ford's Kitchen Sink Engine (my version)

They’re tough little buggers to get running, even at full size. Good luck on working out the bugs, at least you don’t have to work out the points ignition or drip carburetor/oiler! Still looking forward to your success. John W

Henry Ford's Kitchen Sink Engine (my version)

Time to get some fuel and spark to that baby so we can hear her “pop”! Looks great!!! John W

Henry Ford's Kitchen Sink Engine (my version)

Oh, I almost forgot, I had to lap the exhaust valve to get it to seat well, and it seems I did something similar on the intake side as well but cant remember what I used.

Henry Ford's Kitchen Sink Engine (my version)

Great looking gears. I used JB Weld on some of the components, and like you, the NPT didn't grab a whole lot of material so that was one of the places I reinforced with it. It does get hotter than a cheap pistol when running, so I don't run more than a couple minutes at a time (I got a pretty...

Henry Ford's Kitchen Sink Engine (my version)

I made a very flimsy coil spring that sits on the combustion chamber side of the valve from some light music wire. Actually, it was a “B” string from my guitar, and I can’t remember the wire gauge. I’ll PM you some ideas. John W

Henry Ford's Kitchen Sink Engine (my version)

I like the way you’re eating up all that extra dead space in the combustion chamber. Sure will make for an easier runner! Looking forward to seeing your adaptation on the intake valve. I screwed around with building a weak spring to keep the ‘Clapper” closed, but could’ve done better! John W

Henry Ford's Kitchen Sink Engine (my version)

Coming along nicely Ray! Will you be using some form of breaker ignition with spark plug, or are you going to attempt an igniter? John W

Henry Ford's Kitchen Sink Engine (my version)

Aww, too bad on the swing radius. I was looking forward to seeing the shorter version! John W

Henry Ford's Kitchen Sink Engine (my version)

I felt a lot like Henry while trying to get mine running. This was my first IC engine, only having built a couple LTD Stirling engines before this and I can only imagine the frustrations he went through, having only basic thoughts passed along from fellow engineers along the way. Just goes to...

Henry Ford's Kitchen Sink Engine (my version)

This is a nice looking project as a scaled down version. I built a full sized Ford first engine complete with cast iron rings and piston, and it was tough getting it to run with the oiler drip carburetor, but I did make it run well with much tweaking of the drip rate and timing. Please excuse...
