    Designspark going subscription?

Hi Don, I did a search online about converting a DS5 file, RSDOC, into a step file. There seems to be a few tools available to do the job, but I am not sure how accurate they are. I also came across a DS video by a poster on youtube where he saved a DS file as a DXF (which I thought was only 2D)...

    Designspark going subscription?

DS5 doesn't know what the date is, unless I tell it. I reset the system date each time I use it and I have been doing this for a long time, on two computers. I did forget to reset the date on one of them once, so I had to set a different date for that one. To remind myself what the date should...

What have you been doing today?

My Nephew is visiting his mother for a few weeks. He emigrated to Australia several years ago and this is his first trip back. One of the first things he noticed was how cold it was! When you're used to taking the family down to the beach on Christmas day I suppose you would notice if the temps...

    Designspark going subscription?

Thanks for that info Don. I have Designspark v5 installed on a computer not connected to the internet. Each time I use DS5 I reset the date to when I installed it, a bit like Groundhog day! The computer I use when I go online is an 8 year old Acer all-in-one, and struggles to run any cad...

    Oboe feather stand

To me, challenges are what keeps me going. Never stop! I will try rendering my design in SolidEdge, it won't be as good as yours, but I fancy a challenge. To those of us that live in Cornwall, Camelot, like dragons and Piskies (yes, that is spelt right) are very real.

    Oboe feather stand

Zeb, what can I say except wow! I could use SolidEdge to produce a rendered view of the piece, I hadn't thought of it until I saw your render, which programme did you use? You list your location as Camelot, I've been there with my local car club. A very interesting Post office is near the car...

    Oboe feather stand

I have watched several videos where a complex pattern is coated in silicone to a good thickness and then the silicone is either cut from the pattern or peeled off. The silicone is brushed on which virtually eliminates bubbles. After curing, the silicone is then filled with resin to produce the...

    Oboe feather stand

I hadn't planned to cast one, but the one with the large lettering would look good in aluminium. The thing is, the 3D print is one piece, and with the lettering as well... I don't want to destroy the print by burning it out of an investment plaster mould, so I wonder if making a silicone mould...

    Oboe feather stand

I designed an oboe feather stand using Designspark mechanical. Text isn't a strong point of DS and I felt I might do better using SolidEdge. I am not well versed in SE so I watched several videos concerning text and extruding to a surface, and then trimming the protrusion. It wasn't easy! The...

What have you been doing today?

I have spent the last few weeks making an angled non-slip jigsaw table for a friend so that she doesn't have to bend over a flat table to do them. Today I got to try a mock-up of the table to see if the pieces would slide off. I borrowed a jigsaw from my friend and put the table at a 45 degree...

Painting aluminum castings problems and questions.

If you are going to take the engine apart to remove the paint perhaps you could grit blast it? I don't mean the sort of grit used on rusty metal, but some sort of plastic material. It might even leave a surface that will take paint better.

Aladdin's cave of machines to dispose of - help needed

Hi David, sorry about the loss of your brother in law. It would help if you could tell us what part of the country the machines are located. There might be someone reading this who could spare the time to see them. Good luck, Lee

My Flat Head Hit Miss Engine

A very nice build. There's something hypnotic about a hit and miss engine running.

    Question about lost PLA casting

timo_gross. I think that's the way John described the process, he does some very nice iron work.

    Question about lost PLA casting

John Woodward of JW Engineering here in Cornwall invited me to watch a pour. I think it was about 25kg or more of iron with several kg of glass. He was advised to add the glass by an old foundry worker. This is his web site. https://www.jw-eng.co.uk/Foundry-Work

    Question about lost PLA casting

I was invited to watch a pour of cast iron where glass scrap was used to fuse to the dross and make the pour cleaner. I dont know about brass.

    Cutting gaskets with K40-style laser?

I think that Myfordboy used a laser to cut gaskets. It might be worth a look on youtube.
