Distortion in a resin 3D print

If the panels don't stay flat after the heat treatment to remove the distortion, I will print them on my Ender3. It's not as good as your 3D printer, but it gets the job done. It will take nearly 9 hours though.

Distortion in a resin 3D print

At the moment the warping is very little. If it stays like this, then I will rely on strong advesive to hold the panels in place. I must admit that the temp in the insulated box the printer is housed in may not have been as high as it could have been. I use a 40 watt filament bulb for the heat...

    Flywheels

Thanks for that Steamchick. Now I know how to calculate the inertia of a flywheel, how do I work out how much inertia an i.c engine will need? It's something I hope I will need to know one day.

Distortion in a resin 3D print

It wouldn't be hard to make form like that from two sheets of thin aluminium. If they do start to buckle again I will try that, thanks.

    Stephenson’s Rocket

In my ignorance I thought that the boiler cladding was varnished wood. It appeared to be in the drawings above. My mistake. If the engine is going to be steam powered I would use wood. I have never had to raise the grain on a piece of timber, but it's an easy thing to try. If it isn't going to...

    A view, 2/5/2023

Taken from my window at just gone 7am this morning. Very strong sunlight, but I think the mist shows OK. Illogan, Cornwall, UK.

    Stephenson’s Rocket

I think I would go for real wood. I think the grain would be visible. Having said that, I am using a sheet of glossy printer paper with woodgrain printed on it to glue on the body of my one tenth scale model car which has a wooden body. I found several suppliers of wood veneer, but I am making...

Distortion in a resin 3D print

The picture shows two resin 3D printed interior panels for my one tenth scale model of my Austin 7. I am making four models, so I printed four pairs, four right and four left panels. They all came out of the printer with the distortion shown on the end of the left hand panel. The right hand...

    Hello everyone

Will the motors be used to drive something, or just decorative? I would like to see a motor built along the same lines as the film version of 'The Time Machine'. All fancy scroll work and brass! See you in 800,000 years?

    Howell V Twin, Webster Engine

I like the look of both those engines. I would like to hear the V-twin running.

    3D printed engine

I would like to see some design drawings for this engine. I can't get my head around the description. My fault, not yours!

    Experimental Flash Steam and others

I stumbled across the posting by mistake. I have read several of the posts and find them in the whole, but then again who wouldn't? I believe that the intention was to generate discourse that wouldn't be discoursed anywhere else but here it is, so am I. So with that sorted I will bid you a due.

Convert Design Spark Mechanical files to SAT files. Plus import STEP files into DSM.

I copied the converter files to my Win XP computer but it wouldn't run because it is 32 bit not 64. I then copied the files to my Win 10 computer that used to have DS5 installed which was deleted a long time ago. The converter ran fine and the converted file was imported into SolidEdge running...

Convert Design Spark Mechanical files to SAT files. Plus import STEP files into DSM.

Panic over! I hope! I was trying to save the SolidEdge file in my root folder C:\ SolidEdge didn't want to do that, but didn't tell me, so it's not my fault. Well, maybe it is a bit. Anyway, I have now saved the body that started out as one of two, as a SE file and a STEP file. The STEP was...

Convert Design Spark Mechanical files to SAT files. Plus import STEP files into DSM.

I have just tried saving and exporting a SAT file imported into SolidEdge and it isnt working as I thought. When the files is imported I can change any of its features, but can't save it as a SE file, my mistake, and also when I export it, which seems fine, it only exports an empty file. So all...

    The worlds smallest beam engine?

Sorry Steamchick, but the video isn't me creating the beam engine! It's the man at a company called Cronova Engineering. I wish it was me. They have posted several videos on youtube and they are well worth watching. I didn't even think of wording the title or blurb to reflect who should get the...

Convert Design Spark Mechanical files to SAT files. Plus import STEP files into DSM.

I will try this on a very old Win XP computer. It's never had DS installed. I will post the results later.

Convert Design Spark Mechanical files to SAT files. Plus import STEP files into DSM.

I have found a way to convert RSDOC files into SAT files that can be imported into Solid Edge and other programmes that support SAT. I would suggest that if you’re going to try this do it with files that are copies. It isn't as difficult as it looks. 1) Create a new folder from C:\ I called...
