    Round Column Mill

I have never seen a round column in action, and I like what Keith does. I will check out his videos.

Thanks Lloyd-ss. I can see how that works.

    Round Column Mill

Pardon my ignorance about mills, I've never used one. Is a round column mill adjustable for height? If I had one and wanted to machine a slot, how would I do it?

Pressure and Siphon-Nozzle Style Foundry Oil Burners

What would the benifits be with a set up like this if only melting aluminium? I have watched a 25kg cast iron pour where the iron was melted with propane. Very large chunks of brake rotor were added to the melted iron and they melted rapidly. The man who had this set up has now rebuilt his...

That is really coming along. The roll of tape shows the scale.

    Solidworks CAD

When I contacted Solidworks a few years ago asking about the student version, they were amazingly good. I live in the UK and couldn't download the software, so Solidworks sent me the DVDs. I contacted them just before the yearly licence was to expire to inform them that I wouldn't be applying...

    Stuart 10v

I am far from being a machinist, expert or otherwise. But I do have some experience with Austin Seven engines. They have white metal big end bearings, and oil pressure measured in low single digits. When the big ends wear, and you can't afford to have them redone, it was (still is to some) the...

Well done my friend! Good news indeed. Look after yourself.

    Another Lost PLA Casting Method

I would normally spend a lot of time preparing a pla print before using it to cast something. In a way, his method is easier. Pla is a pig to sand/scrape, fill, prime etc. All he has to do is hit the finished casting with a variety of sanding disks and files (and filler?) and he will have a...

    Another Lost PLA Casting Method

That was very interesting! I couldn't tell if the pla was burnt out in his oven or by the pour, or a bit of both. He also used an induction coil to melt the metal, I would like to know more about that. All in all, very interesting, and the castings were flash free.

What have you been doing today?

Part two. After all the work on the garage/workshop I ended up with a lot of stuff that needed a new home, so I had to clean out the shed to make room for it. Whilst cleaning the shed I noticed that there is a lot of rot in some of the panels. I need a new shed. That can wait till next year!

What have you been doing today?

My workshop re-arrangement is 99% finished. I gained 6 or 8 inches of extra width in the garage by swapping the shelf units around. It might not sound much to justify several days of very hard work, BUT, after sweeping the floor, I moved the Austin Seven I am working on over to one side enough...

    More med stuff

Up until 10 years ago I was a very un-healthy 19 stones. That's 266 pounds or 120.5 kg. I was also a type 2 diabetic taking about 15 meds per day. I went on a diet, nothing special, I just watched what I ate and only ate what I needed. I also took up walking. Over a period of a year or so I lost...

Inspired build of the Benz 1886 Engine

If Benz took out a patent on his engine, perhaps you could search for that. Was it the Benz or the Daimler that was called (in English) "The Patent Motor Wagen"? I like the Benz engine, so I will be following along.

Not a replica or a model, A real Lister Diesel engine

If you are going to "show" your Lister, vintage car events etc. I would fit varnished wood engine mounts with period cast iron wheels. I used to love seeing the engines at shows years ago.

    Engine Design basic questions

Whilst I agree with your choice of colours, I think I would paint my first engine maroon, or maybe dark blue. Should an exposed con-rod be painted? I have been to hundreds of vintage car shows over the years, and seen hundreds of stationary engines running. From rusty just as found to painted...

    Engine Design basic questions

ajoeiam. Are youconfusing the programme I use, Solidedge, with a programme called Solidworks? Solidedge has a community edition of their programme that is free to use with a few limitations. Type "Solidedge community edition" into a browser and it should take you to their website. As for...

    Engine Design basic questions

I am not the OP. But I could have been. He asked the question I never thought to ask. When I drew up (I won't use the word designed, it makes it sound as though I knew what I was doing) my first engine, I didn't know anything about bore to stroke relationships etc, or that one could build their...

Fantastic! It's a pity we don't have smell-o-vision yet. I just love the smell of steam. It sounds just like a full size engine.
