Sight glass for fuel tanks etc

Old movie projectors have a round piece of glass in front of the light bulb. They are made for the high temperature.

boiler explosion. what not to do.

On another note, I have a couple of Jensen boiler/steam engines. I have often wondered what is in them (type of boiler) and how they are manufactured. Are these soldered?

    retiring to machinist

In 2010 I left a Plastic welder plugged in on my bench. It melted, started a fire and I lost all of my tools, the Christmas stuff on the second floor storage, and three cars. It took two years to rebuild my garage and replace the tools. The good part was, the garage was detached, 100 feet from...

Books to teach 3D CAD for Apple

I have Turbocad delux for Mac, V12. Recently I tried the Windows version. They are very different programs. retiring to machinist

Don’t forget to budget for “accessories “. I retired a year ago, you’ll love it. I spend my summers in the garage working on cars and reserve the cold weather for basement tinkering. I spend a fair amount of time 3D drafting then turning them into things... Have you considered CNC and 3D...

    Fathers Day

I inherited my dad’s Atlas lathe. I took it apart, cleaned it, replaced the Timken bearings, replaced the beat up 3” chuck with a 5” and added a quick change tool post. I know he would have appreciated the upgrades. A few days ago my older brother was over and noticed the old sewing machine...

    Software in the cloud

It has come to the point that I am afraid to upgrade my OS. Recently, I upgraded my Mac, clicked on my Outlook and was presented with the message that I had to upgrade my MS suite. Well, despite the fact that I lost everything associated with that suite, I refuse. The same thing happened when...

How do you keep going on a long project like Lady Stephanie Beam Engine

I put my tools away at the end of the day also, but’s that’s because I won’t remember where I put them the next day!

PM Research #5 "coke bottle" steam engine

I finished one of these last year. I broke three taps on the casting. Those tiny mounts hardened more than the thicker part of the frame. I finally drilled the holes one size larger. It is, however, my favorite engine to date.
