    2024 Indiana model engine show

My video of the 2024 Indiana Model Engine Show. (My display is near the end of the video, on the green tables.) ...Ved.

    Shows keep getting smaller!

I believe the issue is the commitment. The 2024 Indiana show requested two full days to exhibit. I had two tables of engines, but as that I'm still employed, it took up my entire weekend and I only live 2-1/2 hours away from the show. Perhaps a section where someone could bring a few engines...

    2024 Indiana model engine show

I'll be exhibiting at the show. I haven't fully decided which of my 20 plus steam engines to display though...

    2024 Indiana model engine show

I live in Indy. A couple of notes: The Indy 500 museum is currently closed for renovations. Indianapolis has a few decent "barcades". If you've never tried duck pin bowling, go to Fountain Square. The Zoo is pretty good. The Eiteljorg Museum isn't all that. I do recommend the Indiana State...

Is there a program to make a 3D model with measurements that is free?

Ondsel is based on FreeCAD, but with a workflow that's much closer to the commercial mechanical CAD software. Both Ondsel and FreeCAD have assembly environments which most free CAD modellers do not. ...Ved.

Double Grasshopper Steam Engine with Plans

This engine was a long time in coming to fruition. It was inspired by the grasshopper engine layout. I firmly believe the reason why people are fascinated with steam engines over other engine types is that you can see all the moving parts. Therefore I wanted an engine with an excessive number...

    Plan to build....steam!!

Go to Myer's Engine. They have some wobbler casting kits of decent size that aren't too expensive. ....ved.

    2024 Indiana model engine show

I'm still tickled that the video above I made at the 2023 show just to document for myself. I has no idea it was going to used by others.

Pete Menger Model Engine & Hobby Show, Monroeville, IN - October 14, 2023

I threw together my photos/videos I took of the show. No editing or effort put into the video at all.

How not to Do Backyard Metal Casting

Ok, Let's go the other way. Below is a short video of one of my casting pours. I'm not trying to be stupid here. Review and let me know what, if anything, I'm doing wrong. (I already noticed my arms were bare and I wasn't wearing a jacket. So you can skip that critique.) ...Ved.

    Zanesville

I've attended NAMES once as a spectator. As stated in another post, I'll be going to the Indiana Show as an exhibitor. This will be the first time exhibiting at strictly model engineering show. I have exhibited my engines at various Maker Faires over the years. It's good fun. At the Maker...

Pete Menger Model Engine & Hobby Show, Monroeville, IN - October 14, 2023

This will be the my first show as an exhibitor. Must admit I'm a bit intimidated by what some you true craftsman can do. I'm at the other end of the perfectionist scale, but most of my engines are of my own design and what I display is the prototype engine. (Sometimes it's the only one in...

Boulton and Watt 1802 steam engine

I believe I've seen the actual engine. It's on display at the British Science and Technology Museum (or whatever it was called). Great work you've done.

    Vederstein's Folly

Those that were following, know that this air motor was to be an "ultra-quiet" air compressor pump. Well the performance was abysmal. It wouldn't pump air worth a damn regardless of what I did to it. The only thing to do was to build up a base and reassemble the thing into an air motor...

    Designing a Quiet Air Compressor

I made up the port brushes, found some applicable springs in my stash, and reassembled the engine. (No reason for pictures because, externally, it looks the same.) Performance is worse than before. Therefore: I'm done. This project is officially a failure. Not that I didn't learn things...

    Designing a Quiet Air Compressor

I never got that far. If I was in the 50-70 psi range, I'd agree. But with only 10 psi there's far bigger issues going on. When I get the brushes made/installed, there will certainly be a break-in period. I'll probably set it up outside, covered in the box. I don't particularly want to...
