A fully adjustable toolpost for the Unimat 3

Hi, congratulations for the clever use of recycled padlock ! I also have an unimat (the older model, SL) and some salvaged brass padlocks so I will have a go with a toolpost copied from your. the pictures show differently colored brass parts, and the way you cut through the padlock is not clear...

    Thin line knurling???

Hi, You may press the edge of a flat file on the job while the clutch of the lathe ( not running!) is disengaged or in high gear, the trick is to drive the piece with the file only, without slip or skid of the file. Very fast, a few seconds in fact, no tool to change or to make, and quite decent...

    'Poppin' Flame Licker Engine

Hi Nick Pretty well done! So satisfying to see them running! Looking at the picture of the dissembled engine, I wonder how come you ended with so many little parts; this will not help for maintenance. I also agree that the valve stem is the weak point of this design, a first class one anyway...

    My completed Cracker

Hi So nice. About the burner, did you make the burner as in the drawing or have you changed something? I am actually finishing three of these little gems and I am very anxious to see them working. Cheers Zephyrin

buliding a vaccum engine and need some help

Hi good news Chizz, may i suggest that you keep major tweaking after your lecture, which would be a great show with your engine running... so keep it running! this engine cannot be a fast runner anyway, too much drag, too long stroke, too heavy valve flap and so long. congratulation cheers...

buliding a vaccum engine and need some help

Hi NickG yes the noise is amazing, however I did not understand where he come from, for me it is not a simple mechanical rattling, a large part seems also due to air movements trough the valve port, I don't have measuring devices in my own workshop to experiment further, it is a pity because I...

buliding a vaccum engine and need some help

Hi, Chizz I did a close look at your engine, a very nice work, the main bearing doesnot easy to do. I wonder what are the two little ear-like pieces that one can see on the back of the flap? I think that the burner 's wick is too low, my engine run with the cylinder port completely surrounded by...

buliding a vaccum engine and need some help

Hi Chizz you asked for a picture of the cam, here come pictures. However the cam profile is not sufficient in its own to control the opening of the flap. We don't have here a simple and needle like cam follower moving radially. the point of contact with the combined "spring and follower" is...

buliding a vaccum engine and need some help

hi Chizz do I understand properly? do you want to say that when you to launch the engine forward with the lit burner, you feel the vacuum in the cylinder at the end of the stroke, and the engine turns over violently backward without passing BDC ? but you have got it, almost. more heat, more...

buliding a vaccum engine and need some help

Chizz, I don't get the point about the pressure you feel, there is something wrong in the valve diagram or I have missed something in you question. Running forward you should not feel any resistance, nothing, the more free running you may achieve is the best. on the opposite, backwards, the...

buliding a vaccum engine and need some help

hi Chizz, As I told you, I have extracted my engine from the depth of my garage and I did a few run last sunday and take some videos of my engine running and looking carefully to a few point that could be of some interest to you. I will try to post a video on YouTube but it is a première for...
