Do train locomotive components for G scale live steam exist today?

a lot of plans for small gauge model locos do exist... you can start your own loco today, you will not be alone, amongst many active modellers. no living in the US, I'm not aware of the small gauge live steam get together, which are certainly a good way to start. I enjoy the steamup meeting as...

Burner problem with gauge 1 loco

the meths has to be vaporized to combine with oxygen and burn, this is the normal process of combustion... and if the whole meths tank gets very hot, it is dangerous and destructive as the loco is surrounded by flames! it happens easily with tin plates locos...

Burner problem with gauge 1 loco

Its a pity because you did a lovely loco... with this boiler, it seems to me that the venting is too restricted for a good combustion of the meths... I think that after building up pressure with an auxiliary draught with an electric fan, the blower must remain open, have a look at the burner...

Burner problem with gauge 1 loco

could you give us some details on the burner and the firebox... are they as per the LBSC's blue prints ? I did a similar loco years ago, very modified, with a internally fired boiler, which runs very well.

    3D printing an engine frame?

I too love to use my Ender each time I have to make a little gizmo...mainly because it is so easy to reprint a refined version ! there is a pair of beautiful yellow helical gear in a picture above (# 25, Greentwin) I wonder if it is possible to model it in 3D with freecad too ? I'm just...

    Chinese ignition module

the electronics inside these little ignition modules is very close to the circuit of some electronic gas lighter, and as shown by Jan Ridders on his site, the conversion into a usable ignition is easy... http://www.ridders.nu/Webpaginas/pagina_blokker_vonkcircuit/blokker_crcuit_frameset.htm and...

    Chinese ignition module

I did little ignition modules according to the site of Jan Ridders with modified electronic gas lighter, and they worked a treat, with reed switch or home made switch that imitates conventional contact breaker. and I'm not alone, see for instance "mylittlediesel" with several videos on this...

    Chinese ignition module

it is this kind of reed contact https://fr.farnell.com/hamlin/59140-1-t-02-f/sensor-magnetic-spst/dp/1839038 it do not depends on the orientation of the magnetic pole to be activated, as is the Hall sensor, but the position of the magnet can be critical for a precise triggering...and a ferrous...

    Chinese ignition module

Yes, the 2 wires "sensor" is just a plain reed switch...you can easily find the same at RSpare. but I doubt that it is the failed component, alas, the cooked one is probably embedded in the putty...

    My latest project named "Red"

great result, a good looking engine with very realistic low speed and efficient regulation, congratulations !

    miniature transmission

nice steam launch, Steamchick ! if the disks on the bobbin were a little bit larger and the central wheel with the o ring made movable in the front-rear direction to change the radius rolling on the disk, the speed could be changed... but it is obviously annoying to modify a perfectly...

    miniature transmission

I did a friction drive on a similar principle for a little diesel shunting loco powered by a mini 4 stroke engine with spark ignition (1.5cm3), no, not a true diesel I confess... this variable drive works a treat; and may certainly work on a boat, with changes, as the general arrangement is very...

Wanted WTB: Unimat 3, BEGGING for help.

I do have a Sakai ML210, with the milling attachement, since more than 25 years, it is a clone of the Toyo lathe, I'm happy with it, you may extend your search to this model, and its many clones, very close to the Unimat 3 you desperately wish..

looking for advice on a boiler project

If you really tested this boiler up to 120 PSI, without seeing any inflating or bulging, it cannot be 26 thou thick, or it is heavily stayed inside ! and yes a cylinder is to be preferred to a rectangular box... for little elmer engines, you need 20-30psi to get them running very fast...

Another “Tiny” I.C. My first model engine

very pretty engine, run well ! congratulations ! at the end of the video, one can listen some hunting or surging, as it the fuel becomes leaner with an increase of speed followed by a loss of speed. one of my engines behaves similarly, and I wonder how to regularize its run...

    Root&Vandervoort with Magneto

Realistic and quiet pace for this engine ! great result, specially for the use of the magneto, which usually don't like slow speed!

    Model Engine Ignitions

relating to the Paschen law quoted above, I did a little test to see the spark while increasing air pressure with a syringe. and yes, the spark was much brighter upon pressure increase... but I don't have any way to measure these high voltage ! https://photos.app.goo.gl/SxN52geM2LRohmmz6

    Broken crankshaft !?

this seems to me he result of a twisting force, heavy flywheel and sudden slowing or increase in speed. and yes, the journal looks flimsy as compared to the whole crankshaft, and the radius are "mandatory" too.

    Mark's Monitor Build

lot of skills in these builds, thanks to share! this engine looks great, i'm anxious to see the progresses.

Can anyone help identify these various pieces?

very nice set of tooling...a good opportunity to start a hobby ! the two chisels with wooden handle might be for metal turning too... turning brass or bronze with hand tool is a delight, but nowadays too expensive according to the price of a good length of a bronze bar to make a candlestick...
