Meh - Just a little clean up

To come back to floors, our factory was criticized in a customer audit for its stained floors. So it was coated in a nice grey epoxy, which looked marvelous, one problem you could not walk on it if contaminated with oil water anything, so you had to develop a very strange way of walking. After...

    Mini diesel engine.

In practice the spray pattern is not allways conical, it is sometimes shaped using different sized holes and angles, more so laterly trying to satisfy emissions, again a reason for going to electronic control, however if you do manage to get a good spray of fuel at the right time and pressure...

    Mini diesel engine.

It was a full time job for one man to set up enough injectors using the hand pump you mentioned with a test oil to satisfy all the test machines about 100 of them each taking from 3 to 8 injectors all to different specs. with regards to the drip which is why a lot of vehicles have high smoke the...

    Mini diesel engine.

Lucas diesel systems which became Lucas Varity then Delphi the last two being American. In minh-thanhs last post I don't understand the comment in bold, if it is to chastise for making a comment that was made with good intentions then it could have been better. this is a forum for helping...

    Mini diesel engine.

Please do not be tempted to put a finger over or near the spray pattern fuel will enter your body, worst case it can kill. I am no expert but I did spend 40 yrs in diesel fuel injection manufacture, and this is the first thing you are told. The snoring noise is the imjector opening and closing...

Beware! running a generator to power the house during a cut, you must disconnect the house from the grid as you could cause harm to someone working to fix the fault.

    Advise on Myford leadscrew

Delapena that's a name from my distant past, do you think the shoes take the same wear as half nuts? I suppose at the end of the day regardless of material its got to be better than worn ones. I screw cut internal and external multi start square threads as part of my training in the Lucas Cav...

    Advise on Myford leadscrew

IF it is Mazak which I find suprising given the wear it will take, It would be possible to use the unworn end of the lead screw as a pattern and cast a replacement. Mazak has a very low melting temp and lends itself to complex castings and is cheap hence its common usage.

Squaring off the bottom of a blind hole

i WASN'T SAYING THE DRILL WAS BLUNT OR THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MATERIAL WAS NOT A FACTOR, THE POINT I WAS TRYING TO MAKE WAS THAT IT IS ENTIRELY POSSIBLE THAT THE DRILL DIA CAN BE SMALLER AT THE END THAN UP THE FLUTES, THEREFORE EXAGGERATING THE KNOWN CHARACTERISTIC OF THE MATERIAL BINDING...

Emco Maximat Super 11 Threading Lever

GENTLE heat enough so you could still handle it. an oven being the ideal choice, to soften any gunk its amazing how hard old grease can get but only do this if no plastic or seals are there, unless as a last resort. The problem with old grease it is a very good seal and stops any releasing agent...

Bugatti straight 8 cylinder with blower, design, 3D printed molds, castings , machining, assembly

Another method of engine turning which I have used to good effect on scale mode aircraft is a wood dowel of a size to suit scale and lapping paste, used at a modest rpm & pressure, speed and grit is varied to achieve desired appearance. Apologies if I'm teaching you to suck eggs

Squaring off the bottom of a blind hole

In respect of drilling holes in bronze etc that tend to grab, it is entirely possible that the drill is at fault, if for arguments sake the drill is used mainly on steel or worse cast iron the cutting edge Dia. can be smaller than the flutes through wear, therefor exacerbating the problem of...

Toolpost (or other) grinding in the lathe

It was really a general observation mainly because larger wheels from off hand grinders were being used, another potential problem is lighting, under the right circumstances lights that flicker i.e flourescent can act like a strobe and give the impression of a stationary wheel. We had a very...

Toolpost (or other) grinding in the lathe

No one has mentioned balancing grinding wheels, which could explain the strange vibration mentioned in an earlier post. This is most important for safety and accuracy, also be very careful not to exceed the rpm limits of the wheel if making your own drive train. balancing units are available but...

Putting some grip (stippling) on an aluminium drive pulley.

The leather belts which were joined with a wire "lace" which. if used on a machine such as the old smart and brown lathes on which I learnt my trade, with slack in the head stock bearings, it would probably produce a mark in your work given the right circumstances. There is a lot to be said for...

    iGaging 6 inch DRO

On the DRO I fitted to my mill you can go into the settings and alter the resolution of the scale, why I don't know. I had to do it for the mill but not my lathe, and I'm sorry I can't find the instructions, maybe someone else can help. Mine is one of the cheap Chinese type with optical scale...

    Scotty's Webster

I've used a cast weight lifting plate before and it had some big hard spots which made it a pig to machine, not saying they are all the same but beware.

    Another Atkinson Differential build

it is quite common to put a pin in the gap of the ring to stop rotation, of course this has to be allowed for when "gapping" the ring, it also makes it more of a pig to fit the ring.

    How tight??

Incorrect terminology I should have said to help stop it spinning if taper is damaged or dirty.
