    magnum 120 FS repairs

Yes, for sure. The Op seems disillusioned also on materials that "should be" used in the valves and the bearings. Never seen stainless used yet in any commercial model engine, OS included and Magnum or any other spin-off, highly unlikely as well. One thing to watch is C4 bearings (if I remember...

    Small, 3v Buzz Coil Ignition

That's what I said yes. I'll see if I can find where I posted the details. Found a couple of photos....these are OTP coils (on the plug) from BA Ford Falcon down here in Aus. I stripped all the unnecessary gear off the coils. Originals are shown with all bits attached. I picked mine up at...

    Small, 3v Buzz Coil Ignition

We've used Ford OTP coils for ages which look to be around the same size.......no worries if you shove 'em in a box underneath. The Spark plug wire we use is Belden HV rubber around 3mm dia so looks scale. The coils will run fine on one LiPo cell (18650) 3.7v. I put details in here ages ago but...

Vertical 4 cycle engine from recycled parts

Nothing like getting to the end and end up with a 1/2 tooth.....

    Silver soldering rod for boiler

Blue tip will be ok but..............what is the boiler size..??? We did a few here a few years back and used firebricks to retain any heat the best we could AND a 75kw burner. Sounds like this is a first attempt by you and as such I'd be getting some local advice from qualified /experienced...

Yes it is. It's the physical size that will eventually beat you. Small cuts are made on any machine but first you have to be able to fit the part.

Bit small for most things unles you work in ultra miniature.

    Battery Jacks

Also XT-90 are available, as well as 3 pin and panel sockets. Look for online video tips on how to solder to these mothers and it might save you some heartache.

    Piston and crankshaft

Never seen an engine with 4 rings(at least, not in the last 50 years or so) ....I think you'd better look again. Unless you count the two part oil ring as 2 rings, but not a normal practice. Overall, the idea is hardly worth the effort, especially on an old bushbasher stationary engine given...

Engine Coolant and Storage After Shows

Plenty of "waterless" coolants around such as used in Rotax aircraft engines etc. Won't detail any particular brand except to say there are plenty.

1/16" Allen wrenches rounding off corners

We don't tend to use #8 or any other American based sizes here (moreso metric) however I did notice one supplier showing the next size up allen key for a #8 grub screw. Perhaps an answer there..? #8-36 TPI UNF Fine Plain Black Uncoated Grade 14.9 Cup Point Socket (5/64" Key) Set Screws Grub ANSI...

    Another Lost PLA Casting Method

Rather important rule in aluminium casting is, if using bits of scrap/offcut aluminium, do a "heat test" on a small piece out in the backyard first. Any aluminium containing magnesium will start a fire you cannot put out. I would consider that as rule No.1.:)

Temperature of the exhaust of model engine

Well why comment.? Used it for 50 years with no problem...trouble is greenies tend to get involved in many things they don't understand and make it impossible at times over a drop in the ocean. I notice many that get mains connection advice from diluties in here and other places, yet none get...

    Engine Design basic questions

There is a simple design in here somewhere (plans etc) called "simple simon", a single cylinder engine designed and built by our resident ex-school tech teacher and Duke of Edinburgh award winner, George Punter. It was initally designed for high school students so , as the name implies. There...

    Engine Design basic questions

Save yourself some headaches and use a proven design. You'll have you work cut out getting one to run first up as it is. Practice machining methods, much more important.
