    Recycled Rubber

Drill a hole in the middle for a bolt, put the bolt in your cordless drill, and start your I.C. engines by holding it against the flywheel. I've been doing this for years - works great! Scott

My first engine, a PM research #5

Looks great! A car spare tire will run it for a while with the right fittings. Scott

Parsell & Weed Hit & Miss

I am in the process of building the vertical air cooled version. My builds take a while, as I have a lot of interests. I'll post some more pictures soon. Scott

Scale Model Nuts for Model Steam Engines

I just finished making a batch of 4-40 scale size nuts for a Parcell and Weed engine I'm working on. A bit tedious, but they came out well. You can blacken them with cold gun blue. Scott

    Problems with Steel

Drill with a smaller drill first, slow the drill RPM down, and use some oil-should work fine. Scott

    Leaky Check Valve

I built a Jan Ridders Debbie 2 stroke. All you need to do is put the check ball in and using a small punch, tap it with a hammer to seat it. It worked great for me. It's best to use a new ball after seating it. If you need any more info on this engine, feel free to ask. I have sorted out a lot...

    Thumper--a 1 3/8" bore i.c. engine

Thanks, Brian for keeping us entertained! I look forward to every new posting. Can't wait to see it run! (take your time, though - I'm stuck in the house until May 15th) Scott

How to attach a sight glass?

I glued a watch crystal to the end of the tank on my Jan Ridders Debbie engine with Gorilla super glue 4 years ago and it still doesn't leak. Just be sure everything is really clean before you glue it. Don't use silicone sealer-it will leak. Scott

    Struggling to tap some stainless.

You probably need to get some good quality taps-it sounds like they are getting dull instantly. Drilling the hole a little bigger as the last poster suggested will also help. Good luck-stainless is tough!

    Yet Another Webster Begins

I will be watching your build. It's going to take you a while to whittle down that big chunk of tool steel to a flywheel! Scott

    Leak around spark plug

I'm thinking that the sealing surface is not perpendicular to the threads. This will cause a lot of problems with leakage. Scott

Why don't you just lay out your lines and cut to them with a .500 end mill? Instant .25 radius. Scott

    Corian for spark plugs

I have 3 engines running homemade corian plugs. They have run all day at the shows for years on the same plugs. The only issue I have had is that the insulator is easy to crack during machining.

Cutting Cir Clip grooves in Pistons

Make a mandrel to hold your piston by the pin hole in your lathe. Leave enough room to cut the groove. Make or purchase a .020 wide internal groove tool that will fit in the pin hole. Scott

    Pressurized steam cleaner?

I have a garden sprayer (new) that I set up with the correct fittings to run my air engines. A few minutes of pumping will run them for about 10 minutes.
