    Drill press motor swap

Old age MUST be creeping up on me, over 68 dontchaknow, I seem to have misplaced the small multi-compartment box containing MOST of my electronic parts. I could swear that I've seen that box within the last couple of weeks. But I've searched all of the likely places where it could/should be...

    Drill press motor swap

MRA: I'm definitely not the first to do this. I've been wanting to try this on something reasonably "safe", before biting the bullet and re-powering a lathe or mill. So far its' had its' ups and downs, but getting a more powerful motor in a smaller form factor with variable speed to boot...

    Drill press motor swap

That's too bad. For those that have the brushless servo version like my Vevor, last night I played with parameter 8. I changed it from the factory default of 1, to 0. I then ran the drill full speed and went immediately to 0 speed. The drill seemed to coast down to the minimum speed, then...

    Drill press motor swap

Steamchick: Normally when running a variable speed fan cooled motor I try not to run the motor below 20% of its' rated speed, at least for extended lengths of time. The default minimum speed for this controller is 300rpm and the default maximum speed is 3000rpm. This servo WILL run down to...

    Drill press motor swap

Rutzen: Mine basically does the same thing. If I don't have a bit in the chuck it's kind of entertaining to watch the chuck open or close when the motor stops, depending on motor direction. On a working lathe swinging a heavy part, that would probably not be as entertaining - but it would...

    Drill press motor swap

When I went through the hobby machinist thread I found out that he did the same things that I did or still want to do. He re-wired the light circuit so that the power switch on the controller also controls the light like I did. He added the Run/Stop switch to his circuit so that he could stop...

    Drill press motor swap

I have designed a 3D printed mount for the speed pot, I'm holding off on actually printing it until the pot arrives - today or tomorrow. I want to be sure that the dimensions I found on-line are correct before I have the Plastic Pooping Robot crank out the parts. This is the reference I found...

    Drill press motor swap

I don't know about you guys, but I'm a little on the lazy side. Consequently my drill press basically ran at the same speed, no matter what I was drilling. It didn't matter whether it was a 2" hole in hardwood with a Forestener bit, or a 1/8" hole in steel - same speed. Over the weekend I...

Convert Design Spark Mechanical files to SAT files. Plus import STEP files into DSM.

Lee: Have you tried doing this on a machine that doesn't have DS loaded on it? Just in case those executables are looking for a DS license, that would simulate what would happen after they turn the licenses off on 5/31/23. Don

    Designspark going subscription?

"Do you think it might be worthwhile posting details of the rsdoc conversion here? Nothing has to be bought or downloaded, but it is a bit of a fiddle." Lee: Might not hurt. If/when I switch to something besides DS it would be nice to have a recipe to follow to get access to any of my...

    Designspark going subscription?

I got frustrated with FreeCAD when I screwed up the navigation cube, I could still use FreeCAD but it wasn't as easy to manipulate the model. I tried something to fix it, might have been a repair? But I STILL had the nav cube issue. I think I found out later that I would probably need to...

    Designspark going subscription?

Lee I completely agree, DS IS hard to beat when designing something to be 3D printed. Unless you designing something that's artsy-fartsy and all curved surfaces, DS does that, but it struggles. When I started 3D modeling a few years ago it was, and still is, to design the parts required to do...

    Designspark going subscription?

Designspark is a direct modeling program, and as such it made it a LOT easier for me to wrap my head around the complexities of 3D modeling when I first started. I was actually able to get a program that thinks in mm, at least with that version of DS, to generate a 1/2-13 thread that I 3D...

    Designspark going subscription?

OK, this is a little off topic, but it's still about Designspark v5.0. How do you generate a polygon in DS v5.0 if you have the constraints enabled? I had enabled constraints some time ago and was trying to wrap my head around using them in a familiar software package. I knew that the tool...

    Designspark going subscription?

Yes, a version of DS will remain free. That free version will not have all the functionality that currently exists in DS v5.0. Is this starting to sound familiar to anybody else?

    Designspark going subscription?

As long as you don't have the computer connected to the Interwebb, and you use that machine/reset the time often enough that DS5 doesn't think it needs to phone home and verify its' license, I'd think you should be OK. I guess you'll know on 6/1/23 one way or the other. What's going to happen...

    Designspark going subscription?

I know a couple of other people on this forum use Designspark too, it's not just me. I think my anti-virus software changed something and I'm no longer getting the normal start screen with the latest news from headquarters when I fire up Designspark, but that's not the problem. I went on-line...

    18 Cylinders Isotta Fraschini (straight six-cylinder x3 )

Foketry: That's an interesting torch, what is it and who makes it? How many of those itty-bitty caps did you have to make to close off the ends of the tubes? With one each for intake and exhaust, times 18 cylinders, plus all the other end caps, I'm guessing it had to be close to 50 of the...

    18 Cylinders Isotta Fraschini (straight six-cylinder x3 )

Most modern auto engines will easily run for 200,000 miles without major problems, I got 250,00 out of my KIA Sorento and the engine was still running strong when I got rid of it. At 60MPH that works out to over 4,100 hours with the engine under load. Our engines will see maybe 100-200 hours...

    Shriner parade car

Didn't mean the tire profile looked flat, I meant the tire looked like the sidewall had collapsed and the rim was sitting on the ground. Your planned foam insert should help that issue.
