    Sprayed-on 3D Printed Pattern Filler

I agree with what petertha said about thinning the fillers with acetone, with one addition. The whole idea/advantage of a 2 part filler and/or glaze is that it doesn't shrink. You thin it with acetone and you just took that advantage away because now it's going to shrink as the acetone...

    Sprayed-on 3D Printed Pattern Filler

Greentwin: What are you using to apply the body filler and/or polyester glazing compound? You can get plastic squeegees from the auto body suppliers just for that purpose that can be used to apply a THIN layer of filler. (They're only a couple of bucks.) And while you're at it you really...

    Chrysler Hemi 1/4 scale

Being a master engine builder I assume Leonard's 1/2 scale 427 is a running engine. Are there any public videos of it running?

Fabricated Ignition Distributor for 4 cy. model i.c. engine

Foketry goes over some of his trials and tribulations in building a distributor for his 18 cylinder engine in his thread... might help, might not. Distributor starts at post #271

    Stepper Motors

The primary reason to use steppers in these small systems is their low cost. A stepper allows the average hobbyist to use relatively simple software to do CNC control in an open loop - with no position feedback. The control software counts the number of steps so, under normal conditions, it...

I know exactly what you mean, I can NEVER get those other two idiots to agree.

    18 Cylinders Isotta Fraschini (straight six-cylinder x3 )

I've got no clue about what actually would happen with your new manifold design, but my gut feeling is that the 2 outside cylinders would be starved for fuel. Your carb feeds the center runner, which in turn splits and feeds the last runner between the 2nd and 3rd, and the 4th and 5th...

    18 Cylinders Isotta Fraschini (straight six-cylinder x3 )

Soooooo....... When it first popped did you run around yelling "It's Alive - It's alive!", or did you just get a silly grin that absolutely refused to leave your face? Congratulations, this has been quite the adventure so far. I'm looking forward to when you can say it's complete and you're...

Question about putting VFD on a step pulley mill.

I always thought that unless the drive was specifically designed for it, you needed to de-rate the drive when powering a 3 phase drive from a single phase source. (That old divide by the square root of 3 thing.) But most likely that would be for a 100%, 24/7 duty cycle. It's probably...

    18 Cylinders Isotta Fraschini (straight six-cylinder x3 )

If you're replacing pistons/cylinders due to overheating, that means the beast has been running long enough to overheat - right? Don't keep us in suspense, I can't hold my breath for much longer. Enquiring minds want to know, what's it sound like?

Electric Starter System for Model Engines

Brian: Would a 3 position selector switch work? You can get them in different configurations, spring-return to center, and maintained. Use the spring return side for your momentary run and the maintained side when you wanted it to run continuously. They'd also have the ampacity and voltage...

Question about putting VFD on a step pulley mill.

Ignator: Regarding the obsolete AB/Rockwell drives. I've been working with AB drives since the 90's. I've got the PDF's for most of their drives, including the old stuff. Let me know if you can't find a manual, and I'll see if I've got a copy of it. Don

    1/3 Scale Ford 289 Hi-Po

I've seen the halves soft soldered together before, but never silver soldered. I know Clickspring uses super glue a lot for work holding on a faceplate, and I think super glue is stronger in tension than it is in shear. The glue would have been in tension from the centers trying to wedge the...

    1/3 Scale Ford 289 Hi-Po

I would have thought that the pressure from the centers would have wanted to split the halves apart along the glue line, like a wedge. Since it obviously worked what was your secret? Minimal pressure on the centers and lots of glue area? What was your backup plan if it had split?

    American LaFrance Steam Fire Pumper

The pumper looks great. I love the pin-striping. But those horses standing there like that look NAKED - they need harnesses. (There, that'll keep you busy for a little while.)

    Lost 3D print Resins?

Agreed, but as you say, a noble effort. I believe that the "ceramic" he uses for the initial coating is actually a casting plaster that is not intended for a burnout cycle. I'm just starting to get things set up to where I can cast small parts. Working on a burnout oven now, so I'm still just...

    Lost 3D print Resins?

Foketry seems to get reasonable results with his Lost PLA plaster/sand mix process that he uses in his "18 Cylinders Isotta Fraschini (straight six-cylinder x3 )" thread in the Work in Progress forum. He starts casting at about Post #120-ish, and uses that process to cast the crankcase and...

    1/3 Scale Ford 289 Hi-Po

Miss-read the 0.0005" height as 0.005" - my bad. (I knew it sounded too good to be true.) I may have to invest in some Poly-cast filament and do some IPA vapor smoothing on the printed pattern. The printer specs SAY it'll go to 0.05mm layers but I'm taking that with a grain of salt.
