    1/3 Scale Ford 289 Hi-Po

+1 on olympic's comment. I never even noticed that little doo-dad until he said something. Bet it really helps balance out the clamping pressure, and no more trying to find a piece of scrap the right size.

still learning, what causes this texture

GreenTwin, thanks..... but I think you probably meant DaleW. He was talking about the sand, I was just talking about the IR gun.

still learning, what causes this texture

Metals with shiny surfaces definitely screw up IR probes. It doesn't work when I try to get the temperature of the hot block on my 3D printer directly from the aluminum. If I stick a piece of painter's tape on the hot block it works. The tape surviving casting temperatures is HIGHLY suspect.

YUP, that chunk of mystery alloy does look like it was dug out of the landfill 30 years ago. But not for long - right?

Replacing with Brush or Brushless DC motor

You could post it on a 3rd party site, like YouTube, then post a link to that site. I use Google photos for the pictures that I post, but there are other similar sites out there. I don't do videos so I don't know if that would work for videos, I imagine that it would. My Google photos is a...

1/4 Scale 1895 St. Joseph Iron Works veneer lathe

I would imagine that some of the hardwoods will really make that steam engine do some serious work. That's got to take some power and a razor sharp blade to cut the veneer off the full width of the blank.

Is there a program to make a 3D model with measurements that is free?

ruben: Designspark3D might work for you. It's a dumbed down version of the Spaceclaim 3D software, and it also has a "Free" version. About a year ago they also went subscription. Like Fusion, even the "Free" versions of both of them are still a subscription - you just don't get charged to...

Is there a program to make a 3D model with measurements that is free?

Autodesk's 123D Design was a predecessor of Fusion 360. It's similar to TinkerCAD, it's free, it's still available for download if you search for "123D Download", it DOES NOT require a subscription or a web connection, and they don't turn it off on you if you don't use it for a few months. Do...

Hobby or more....hobby and make money...

Good luck, but it's probably not going to be exactly what you'd call a lucrative market.

There is a fungus among us.

Mark_1984: My local Sam's Club sells V8 by the flat, with 24 cans/flat. I pick up a couple flats a month. Sam's club is in most states, so you might get lucky and be able to get/order some? Don

There is a fungus among us.

Like I said, these are in my neighbor's lawn, I'm not gonna mow or eat them. On a side note: That neighbor, Bill, passed away over a month ago and the grandkids are getting the property ready for sale. Bill served as a Marine in Korea, the Marine flag still flies below the American flag on his...

    1/3 Scale Ford 289 Hi-Po

Terry: You might want to think about using the solenoid from a 12VDC valve as the basis of a future starter solenoid, if you want to get it smaller. The guts of a starter solenoid is usually nothing more than a copper disc attached to an iron core, with a pair of copper contacts connected to...

There is a fungus among us.

Since I've got no clue if they are edible or not, they will most assuredly NOT be on my menu. As far as how fast they grew: I think Sunday evening was the first time I saw them. At first I thought they were what we refer to around here as puffballs, those get to golf-ball size or a little...

Another Knucklehead, built via castings, as a Draw-Tech design, upscaled

Foketry: How do you tighten the ball/screw units into the pushrod? Can you tighten them from the back side, or are they held in with Loctite? Don

There is a fungus among us.

Saw a couple of white blobs on my neighbor’s yard Monday morning, almost looked like grocery sacks. This is what they turned into and there’s 3 of them. Don’t know if they’re toadstools or mushrooms, I’m an engineer – not a botanist. This is the biggest, that’s a 12 oz. can beside it. Another...

    Cast iron, in a microwave?

Most of those unsafe things usually involve rewiring the microwave's transformer to make either high voltage power supplies for DIY fractal wood-burning, or high amperage supplies for DIY spot welders. And yes. either one of those can kill you if you dis-respect the angry pixies. If you don't...

    Cast iron, in a microwave?

If you want to REALLY live dangerously, tell her she needed a new microwave anyway.

    Cast iron, in a microwave?

You could always say you were making something special for her, and wanted to use her stuff to make it even MORE special. Of course, then you'd better actually carry through with the something special.

    1/3 Scale Ford 289 Hi-Po

OK, so it's Stand Way Off scale instead of Museum scale. Big deal, it still looks great - and it makes the CDI happy. So win-win.

A voltage regulator for a model engine, disguised as a voltage regulator... I love it. I'm assuming that the regulator is to scale?
