    Slicer scaling issues

Last night I re-printed the rear wheel, with the bores corrected back to their original values, and the part scaled to 103% in CAD. It ALMOST worked like a charm. I corrected the 12mm hex pocket back to 12mm, but I forgot to add any clearance Clarence! What I've got now is very much an...

    Slicer scaling issues

GreenTwin: The current plan is to use investment casting for the jewelry sized stuff, and some type of bound sand for the larger stuff. Athough.... Foketry seems to have a reasonable amount of success with his sand/casting-plaster Lost PLA method. I've often wondered if using an actual...

    Slicer scaling issues

Timo & kf2qd: I agree with what you're saying. Simplify also scales uniformly, the dimensions of all the external perimeters are dimensionally accurate after printing. However, all the internal pockets and any bores are too small, which you both have seen. And, as close as I can measure, they...

    Slicer scaling issues

I've been using Simplify3D as my slicer for a number of years now, mostly with good results - until recently.... I started having issues with internal bores and pockets not being dimensionally accurate - they all wind up too small. When I first started 3D printing, 8-10 years ago (Or more?)...

    DIVIDING PLATE ..DIY ..Help...!!

minh-thanh: Do you know anybody with a 3D printer? I'm talking about a filament printer, not a resin printer. Although both would probably work since it looks like the diameter of your outer hole circle is 50 mm? It would be a fairly simple task to design and print a template for the holes...

    Cyclone dust collector

If you use glass you'll probably need to watch your blasting pressure, too high and you run the risk of turning your media into a consumable media by breaking the beads into powder. Potentially, you should be able to re-use your media by sifting the chunks out. If you are removing just paint...

George Vontorne's propane tank sand muller

GreenTwin: Is there any way to recover/reuse the resin-bound sand after casting? Or is it a one-time use item? If it's one-time use, how do you dispose of it? Don

    Sandblaster!!!

It's a little late now, but you should have sealed up the hole in the back and moved it to one of the sides. Every twist and turn that you put in a pneumatic line affects its' flow rate, especially really sharp 90° turns line that. The airflow will appreciate that sweep ell though.

    Cyclone dust collector

In any dust collection system you need to minimize the leaks, because every place you are leaking air into the system means that much less volume of air that will be removed from where you WANT it to be removed. That means sealing all the joints and controlling where, and how much of, the air is...

    Cyclone dust collector

If you are planning on using standard PVC fittings in your dust collector, get the Sweep Ells instead of the standard Ells. The Sweep Ells have a larger radius and you get a better airflow.

    Sandblaster!!!

If you are using anything other than soda as a blasting medium you will scratch up your window - it's just a matter of how long it will take. You need to put a sacrificial layer between the glass and the inside of the blast cabinet. If it were me, I'd put the glass in a hinged frame and then...

    Sandblaster!!!

In pit or quarry work, I'll bet you dollars to donuts that those bin vibrators were a LOT bigger than you'd what need for your blast cabinet.

    1/3 Scale Ford 289 Hi-Po

Apparently stink bugs are fairly non-conductive, especially when electrocuted. If that contactor had a 200A feed maybe Edison was on to something, DC is safer than AC? How did that bug get into that contactor anyway? Doesn't look like he should have been able to squeeze through those slots. Don

    Sandblaster!!!

Brian: The trick for finding lost/miss-placed items is to just go ahead and buy the replacement item. The shop gnomes will then quit hiding them because you've taken all the fun out of their game of hide and seek - it works for me anyway. Usually within a week of buying the replacement...

    Caution Using an Induction Furnace

TSutrina: I agree, when I came up with the 270A that was for a 100% efficient resistive load, just to give a minimum number. If you want to be generous and go 90% efficient that number goes up to 300A and everything else goes up accordingly. The costs that I listed were just for the copper...

    Caution Using an Induction Furnace

Like Abby says, the economics don't make sense for a hobby caster. The infrastructure needed to support something like the 110KW heater listed by GreenTwin IS NOT CHEAP. Something like that would probably require a 400A service. An off the cuff guestimate would put its' minimum full load at...

    Caution Using an Induction Furnace

About 40 years ago I worked 2nd shift as a Machine Repairman/Electrician in a plant that made hydrostatic transmissions for everything from Cub Cadets up to John Deere crawlers. One night I was assigned the job of repairing the 50KW induction hardener in the Heat Treat department. That...

There is a fungus among us.

He's obviously NOT a Marine gnome. My Marine gnomes guard my property against the fungus. My Marine gnomes look something like this, only my gnomes took better care of their uniforms. My neighbor's property, the property that they used to guard against the fungus, now has this: The large...

still learning, what causes this texture

I think for the initial mixing of the green sand you pretty much have to beat the crap out of it. (Or more precisely, beat the clay onto the sand.) I remember tales from years ago on Alloy Avenue, guys would cover the sand/clay mix with a tarp then drive over the tarp with their car, fold the...

There is a fungus among us.

There is MORE fungus among us. I noticed another big one in my neighbor's yard on my way to work this morning. It was starting to rain so no pictures yet, maybe tonight or tomorrow.
