    Turning square headed bolts

Neil Have you entertained the idea of making a square collet and a custom parting tool to finish the head of the bolt. I think the time to be a lot less than the 7 minutes. If is going to make a big difference on your set up. Good luck, I'll be watching Nelson

    Aluminum Foundry

I started casting in the 90's and have melted everything from aluminium to bronze and many alloys in between. I have read my share of so called bad effects from water and wet concrete. I have never tested fate but it is not as dangerous as most play it up to be. Molten metal is the biggest...

    Ceramic Shell Casting Steel

Giovanni You might want to seek the help of a blacksmith. Even if you could cast, the machine work would set you back more than you think. Nelson

Hello from Maumee, OH (near Toledo)

I have a good friend that can no longer use his equipment. He was a machinist all his life and is selling his whole shop and some of his equipment is like new and very well tooled. He lives over around Pittsburgh. Give him a email and he will tell you what he has. He would like to sell all at...

    Aluminum Foundry

Rndmann9 The question of melting all your chips is a very good one. What I do when I gather up the chips I place them in a cut open soda or pop can, then I bend over the edges and crush the can down as much as I can. When I melt my other metal and the crucible is molten I will put the can of...

Two Model IC Engine plan books free to download.

Ken That is a very beautiful set of engines. When I was quite young I had several Cox motors and enjoyed all the hour playing with them. The last job I worked at a young man there was into RC cars and he had tricked everything out to the max. But his father had a complete machine shop at his use...

    Sand Mold Casting Problems

Jim I just seen this thread and if I might suggest something try bumping your bentonite clay up to double what your recipe calls for. Bentonite is what make the sand hold together and it looks like your sand is quite crumble. If you can not do the fist full of sand compressed and get a good rock...

Building of TINY INLINE 4 in Brazil

You are right it is aluminium and I believe that is the reason for not using the tail stock. But cutting like he did held everything up close to the head or chuck which takes a lot of the vibration out of it. The most impressive thing to me was how he did his throw. Emergency collets are very...

    VFD on a Grizzly Mill

Any one wanting to spin anything that fast is playing games. I would hate to see a tool come apart or metal flying at that speed. High speeds are good for one thing and that is very small drill and end mills. Spinning anything on the lathe would require carbide or more durable cutters and a very...

    VFD on a Grizzly Mill

When I hooked up my motor the VFD it was set on a slow ramp up and slow ramp down. I wired it to the motor to make sure it would work. It did not work and I was so upset, then I thought to check the motor wiring. There was the problem it was wired for 408 three phase. I rewired the motor for 208...

    VFD on a Grizzly Mill

I may be wrong but I was told to keep the VFD at a 10% up or down and it would last a long time. I run my mill at 45 htz to 80 htz. I have not had any problem with it for 2 years now.

    Reversing Switch Wiring 3Phase Motor

The VFD will reverse the rotation with out any help. Your switch will over load the VFD an shorten it life greatly. If you look at your poorly wrote manual there might be something about the wiring bar and what you have.

    Why a forum on disabilities?

Gail I read you post and was kind of upset by it. There is only one way to run a lathe with disabilities or with out. Running a mill is the same and yes it is nice to have something to just push the button and watch, but in a real world its about what we want and the pain or adjustments to do...

    Why a forum on disabilities?

Hi All, Holiday wishes and a Merry Christmas to all. When it get to disabilities the worst to me is pain and I have found the more I do the better I feel. Hearing is something I never paid much attention to and now it's too late. Hearing is one of our senses we really need when running...
