    Southbend lathe oil

Hello Zinc will attack silver brgs it will not harm bronze. We used to use main bearings on turbo locomotive engines EMD and it was found out yrs ago the zinc in oil would destroy any bearing that had silver content. If I recall the zinc and silver have a chemical reaction when combined. I think...

    Stephenson's Rocket--Working Model

Brian Is there a reason you didn’t machine the entire wheel and skipped most of the fab.work of corse the fab work would have turned into machine work. Which probably would have been the same amount of time and the same amount of pulling hair lol 😆

    Unwanted Taper ?

What about wear in the ways has this been checked. If you are worried about a taper in the .0000 then you should be worried about wear in the ways. Another possibility is all the backlash taken up when the cut is being made

    Weird welding problem

I would say you have oil or grease that has impregnated the metal I would avoid using cleaners or degreasers to prep the metal. Instead I would use a torch with a rosebud and heat the metal up evenly and burn the oil or grease out. Be careful not to use to much heat you do not want the metal...

How do I model a supercharger rotor?

Maybe this is something I can help you with I have personally rebuilt hundreds of blowers in my time and btw Machine Tom is correct in his statements. I would think this is where a rotary table would maybe help. But if you think about it wouldn’t you be better off by casting the part first then...

Breisch Olds 1/2 scale engine drawings

My understanding from a retired patent attorney Is a 20% change from the latest patented revision. Is enough to say the part in question is not the same part that was under patent. Take this for what it’s worth I am not a attorney but I did stay at a Holiday express

The burr I circled would not be facing this way also I circled the relief cut. I can assure you that this bit was spun backwards everyone of us has done it at sometime. The...

    Bending brass tubing

Back in the day we used to cap one end of the tube then fill it with water making sure to leave enough room for expansion. Then put the tube in the deep freezer and let freeze. Then using a tubing bender or a Mandel bend the tubing how ever you need it. This works great on thin wall tubing if...

    Machining a cylinder head

Othro It has been my experience that if you are just wanting to clean up the surface of the head or remove any warp ness is to use a surface grinder. The only time I would use a mill is when you are trying change the CC. of the engine in other words raise the compression by lowing the CC's of...
