Aladdin's cave of machines to dispose of - help needed

Oops Its not a metric/Imperial dial. It is a dial assembly which converts the 1.25inch wheel rotation (1/8pitch lead screw) to 0.1inch per rotation via internal gears. This was sold by Hemmingway but no longer available.

Aladdin's cave of machines to dispose of - help needed

David - I feel for you in this difficult situation. I would expect to get around £2800+ for the Myford. The attached photo shows the main features you need to describe if you use eBay (which I suggest) I am unsure if it is the standard bed size or extended - I thing standard. The lathe is so...

Aladdin's cave of machines to dispose of - help needed

15, 21 and 22 are the 2 parts of a Dore Westbury mill with what looks like a power feed. I am unsure about the head gear - mine looked different - so maybe this is the oil filled version which is much better. Ideally there should be drawings which would show the design. Take of the cover. If...

For Sale 2x size kerzel hit and miss pricing

I have sold part complete engines and tools (Quorn etc) on eBay. Let the market decide on the price BUT make sure you give a full description including an image of what it would/could look like when finished (use Google to find an image). Its a 7 day auction and you need to hold your nerve...

Aladdin's cave of machines to dispose of - help needed

I should have added this to post 19. It introduces the idea of a photo record of all the stuff with comments.

Aladdin's cave of machines to dispose of - help needed

Following on from posts 10,11 and 12. I have an Essential Information folder to help those left to sort out the "stuff". The attached is made up of articles I have collected over time and should be used as guidance - some of the contacts have changed. I also did not record the origin of the...

Painting aluminum castings problems and questions.

Guys. I always "sand" blast my castings using fine to medium glass before using an etch primer and then a spray coat of colour. If you want to use a clear coat then that seems to work well on the blasted surface with no etch. Blasting gives a pleasant uniform colour to all metals - I am a...

    Kiwi piston dimensions

Thanks for that reply. As an update I found I had the GA which shows the top of the piston flush with the cylinder liner top so I guess that is what I will do. I cut up my drawings and scan each part and print on A4 (letter) size. During this process I "lost" the GA but now found! Thanks Mike

    Kiwi piston dimensions

Guys. I have completed the machining of the piston for the Kiwi MK2 from solid. All is well and I have left the length as 1 1/8inch which is longer than needed. My question is "how far from the top of the cylinder should the top of the piston be". This obviously affects the compression and...

    Cheap storage

Whatever works is fine but those who use cheap usb drives are asking for trouble especially if they are for backup. Working drives on a key ring are a great convenience but they should never be the master/backup Mike

    Cheap storage

MrMetric is correct and GreenTwin gives about the correct price for a 1TB thumb drive. If the price is much less then beware! Reliability can be a big issue as can speed. As a user I think you should ask yourself the following question "Why do I need a 1TB thumb drive?" Thumb drives should...

    Unsatisfied !?

Longboy I sympathise. My solution to the conundrum is my agreement with myself at the start of the build. If I decide to make an exhibition or near exhibition model then I would always re-machine the part. This also goes for painting. If the paint is not good I will strip and re-do or find...

HELP, my shop is a MESS

Hi Metalmangler (good name!) You are correct. I think with all electrics there is detail which is overlooked. The capacity of a ring vs a spur is a good example. As a matter of policy I keep the max load to 2kW on each spur. The MCB is rated at 32A. I find that most electrical equipment is...

HELP, my shop is a MESS

Ouch. That is so easily done and needs to be a warning to everyone. My experience of fires in industry is that heaters of various types are nearly always the cause of fires especially when there is combustible material present. PVC is probably the worst due to the corrosive smoke. Due to my...

HELP, my shop is a MESS

Hi TonySteamHobb I think it would be useful to know what caused the fire in your shop. I think it is something we all fear so any insight could be helpful. Thanks Mike

HELP, my shop is a MESS

Stanstocker You have a good solution which works for you and would work for others. There are many on-line providers. I would however encourage you to purchase safety glasses/frames from the suppliers Mike

HELP, my shop is a MESS

LLoyd The more expensive varifocal lens can have a much wider field of view for reading but will always be worse than pure reading glasses. My suggestion is to buy a pair of safety reading glasses from a online traded. Not only will you have excellent vision for the distance you mostly use...

HELP, my shop is a MESS

Lloyd. Thats the problem of packings "things" away". My system is very organised BUT if I incorrectly place an item in the wrong box its lost! I really have to be firm with myself and record everything. To make it easy I write on my printed list the location. Its quicker than firing up the...

HELP, my shop is a MESS

A bit off topic but not worth a new topic! LEDs have no real wear out mechanism. Before you all jump up and down and spill your tea its not the LEDs which fail but the drivers and or connections. I use many GU10 capsule LED lights and they last from 500 hours to 8000 hours and the box says up...

HELP, my shop is a MESS

Guys Thank you for your kind comments. Although you might think I am over-organized it really is from necessity. With the build up of tools over many years I found that far too long was spent looking for “that tool” or component. I was also forgetting what I had. My solution was to group like...
