    Hi All, Done more, I do not have any black iron for the transfer port, had a 3/4" copper fitting, good enough, formed up and silver soldered to cylinder, then cleaned up. Remounted the cylinder in the lathe and machined a couple of thou under sized. Mounted in mill and machined cylinder flange...

    Hi All, Got some more of the cylinder done today. Used an arbour to hold the cylinder, uses a 1/4" bolt with a 1/4x32 thread for the plug hole. I went with a 1/4" plug as the 3/8" plugs are getting harder to get, the 1/4" ones are readily available. Machined the ports for exhaust and inlet. Set...

    Brian, It would be the same as grinding a shaft, you are just finishing to a size, just doing it different to normal at the moment. All my pistons have been alloy so never ground any. I have ground piston ring blanks to size, but can be done quicker with different grades of emery strips. Cheers...

    Making a standard 3 jaw chuck into a set-tru chuck

    Brian, When I refit a 3 jaw chuck, I blow out the scroll and chuck jaws and then mount a parallel test bar, with the use of a 0.0001" dial gauge, I can usually get it down to 0.0002", it does take some time though. Cheers Andrew
