Some people build Models, others build CNC PLASMA machines

Well, I had a bit of a rethink about the ohmic sensor on a torch that does not have a shield as its the cutting tip that hits the plate so I moved onto other things. I spent a day and a half last weekend soldering up all of the connectors on the case And an SMA coax connector for the...

    PHOTO bucket

Why would I want to? My phone pushes images to photobucket automatically and Adobe Lightroom pushes my camera photos to Photobucket with the push of a button.n Once they are there, I can embed them in an email or post them on a forum. I'm sorry guys, when photobucket finally locks me out...

Electronic Dividing Head using the Arduino

I don't think there is any need to use hardware to debounce buttons when you've got the power of a microprocessor to do it in software. There are plenty of methods but here is one. https://www.arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/Debounce Foozer, Chucks spreadsheet on page 19 of this thread is specific to...

Electronic Dividing Head using the Arduino

But your enquiring mind and rigorous testing did identify bugs in my script that has been out there for a number of years. I did like Limings suggestions for hardware. The sorry fact is that about 70-80% of code is taken up with the user interface. Key bounce is always an issue. There are...

Electronic Dividing Head using the Arduino

Hmm, I think if Captain_Obvious applied his testing procedures to this script, it would also fail at coarse resolution. There must be many more bugs out there masked by 40:1 or 90:1 gearing ratios.

Electronic Dividing Head using the Arduino

I think that is a good approach. What is clear is that you need a strategy to deal with possible inaccuracies due to being out a step per division due to rounding errors. This is imperceptible on hardware with a large number of steps per revolution (18,000 in my case). But on hardware with...

    PHOTO bucket

Bruce, Thanks. I think phone photos has been Photobuckets undoing. I use it all the time becasue I can take a photo and then go back in the office and email it to somebody using gmail from my PC as its already in Photobucket. Pre mobile phone photos, I would always down sample all my photos...

    PHOTO bucket

Bruce, I'd really appreciate it if you could outline how you manage your photos on Google and how you embed them in forum posts. I tried last night with no luck. I've been using a paid version of Google Apps for years but it has never been as good as Photobucket. It seems everybody is vying...

Some people build Models, others build CNC PLASMA machines

Blighty, thanks for the encouragement. Yes I was really hoping I would not need to build the electronic sensor. It is a bit scary when there is 300 volts floating around. I think it should be OK as long as the sensing circuit is disconnected while the torch is cutting. The first precaution is...

Setting up Shop Questions - from an NZ learner

Don't look at my stand then. I'm sure mine is not perfect.... but its a pretty large and stiff lathe so it seems OK.

Well it been 12 months since I bought my first part but this machine is nearly done. I'm really happy to actually see this machine running Gcode (at 18 metres per minute - 709 inches per minute). I've tested it without missed steps at 21 metres per minute (827 IPM) but I thought it might not be...

Setting up Shop Questions - from an NZ learner

This is a rarely used but incredibly useful addition to a lathe stand. The original example I saw used a cheap hand winch to pull the two legs together. On mine, I got away with welding on a piece of 25 mm RHS on the bottom rail. I then turned down some 25mm steel rod so it fitted and I've been...

Setting up Shop Questions - from an NZ learner

Don't tell the old fella that during the week, the boys at work rescued a circumferential welder that had been lying in the weather at another manufacturer for years. I opened the control box, tipped the water out, gave it a few hours to dry out, plugged it in and it came up touch screen and...

    What Mill

I honestly did not realise what a terrible machine my 3 in one Lathe/Mill/Drill was until I bought a separate lathe and mill. I bought the Seig SX3 and find it does everything I need. I threw out my drill press to make room for it and have never missed it.

Its been a while sionce I've done much on this project. 2 more triips to hospital after cutting my finger did not help. I ahd a few parts getting powder coated so I sent out my limit switch plates and the levelling feet. And I tidied up the drag chain support tray And I...

Polishing aluminum to a mirror finish?

I'm with Cogsy and finish with autosol after working through wet and dry grades to about 1200 and some kerosene. Doing this on a lathe is quick and one piece used almost daily for about 3 years still looks nice and shiny

    Interrupt Driven Rotary Table controller

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your testing. I will update the zip file at the beginning of this thread and post here when I'm done Foozer, I suspect your keyboard problem could be due to different resistance values between my Freetronics and your sainsmart keyboards. You may need to tweak...

    Interrupt Driven Rotary Table controller

Glad we made progress. We do need it attached to a RT to test for lost steps. Where is Captain_Obvious? If you have problems, try replacing if(abs(divLeftOver) == divLeftOver) with if(divLeftOver > 0.0) The <Contin> menu allows you to change direction with the left and right arrow...
