    Arduino indexer , full project

I could not find a way to attatch the stepper to the dividing head without drilling and tapping some holes . Clamping would have been my preferred method , as it is non inavsive and reversable . As the head can be tilted , the stepper mount should tilt along with it . So that also rules out...

    Arduino indexer , full project

Next is choosing a suitable stepper . I have boxes and boxes full of them . All from equippement I had to discard and take to the scrapyard . I found an intriguing looking stepper in one of those boxes . This is a planetary gearbox . Sun gear is driven by the stepper and has 12T . The ring gear...

    Arduino indexer , full project

Design considerations : The electronic conversion has to be reversible so that the unit can be put back in its original state . With as little , if possible none , damage to the existing setup . The tilting possability has to function also with the elctronics installed . Who knows , I might want...

    Arduino indexer , full project

When I bought my mill , I was negotiating the price , and I remember saying something like owning a mill isn't everything . You'll need avice and clamps and a dividing head and and and .... The guy responded by opening a drawer and said here I'll let you have this one for free . Just put a...

    Arduino indexer , full project

It must have been more then a year since I've learned about the arduino indexer software . This was immediatly classified in my head archive as a great project , wich I would certainly do someday . I have a drawer full of those projects in the back of my head . So I started collecting all...

    Another Knucklehead Build

It's been a wonderfull journey , thx for letting us tag along . Something I'v been wondering about with the way harley davidson designed their crankshaft . Maybe a little OT , altough the model expiranced thesame issue when the gears locked up . Imagine a knucklehead bike , with a typical...

    3D Printed Patterns

I've been an autocad r12-dos , yes dos :) user for 20 years or until I couldn't get it to run anymore on an I5 computer . So I learned draftsight . Easy and much ressemblance to R12 and free for hobby users . But draftsight will turn into is randsomware by the end of the year , so who knows I...

    Safety Turning

I getthis to , chip breaker or not stainless will be problematic unless an agressive feed is used . As others have mentioned , the lathe must be up to it . Altough my lathe is , it's very hard on the cutting tools , so I usually just grab an d cut the long chips . Worst experiance I had was...

    3D Printed Patterns

Very good result ! Impressive What source of ali did you use ? I'm getting very good results with scuba tanks or co2 fire extinguishers as a source . Alloy wheels also seem to pour very wel I'm still using wooden patterns . Wish I could work with (con)fusion 360.

    Interrupt Driven Rotary Table controller

At first sight i'de say its a bootloader issue . My uno and my nano's both hve thesame meg328P chip . So that can't be the problem . So I tried uploading the software , but this time I used Nano(old bootloader) in the arduino gui . When saving the setup parameters , the arduino stilll...

    Interrupt Driven Rotary Table controller

Rod , has this software ever been tested on a nano ? I've been experimenting with a nano , and a custom made display/button shield with a larger display and better quality switches . It all works at first sight , but when entering setup to assign the step and dir pins etc when I save the...

    Soldering or brazing aluminium help

That is quite possible . All the materials I have is scrap metal salvaged from various machines . And the 8mm ends ( the ones that did work ) were machined from a different piece of scrap . I never thought of that , I'll do some testing .

    Soldering or brazing aluminium help

Job done ! I've had the entire system under 8bar pressure for 48hrs , with a gauge on it . The gauge didn't drop a bit . So the repair was succesfull . I had 3 8mm ( 3/8) pieces to solder . They all soldered without a problem , and succeeded on the first attempt . Here's a picture of an...

    Soldering or brazing aluminium help

When I was in highschool , wich is many years ago , we would experiment with oil or grease . Cover the surface to be soldered , and then use sandpaper or scotchbrite to remove the oxide layer but keep the oil layer intact . The theory was that the grease or oil would shield the the surface...

    Soldering or brazing aluminium help

So true , a very small flame and patience is the way to go . I did use an oxy/acet torch , with the smallest tip I had , and a very small flame . And even then one of my test pieces just melted . I forgot to keep the flame moving while I was adding solder . Its just that I don't have a decent...

    Soldering or brazing aluminium help

Yes , I've also tried those "scratching" rods . With exactly thesame results . Doesnt't work , or at least I cant get them to work .

    Soldering or brazing aluminium help

I cut the last one in half to see if it was fully joined . It was . I tried to polish it a bit , it's hard to see in the foto . There is the large piece , the thin walled tubing and a very fine line between them wich is the jointing material . The other half , I tried pulling it apart with a...
