Attkinson engine & the Pendergrast design..

he did make a throttle , look at the wood screw in the intake :)

Attkinson engine & the Pendergrast design..

I think , looking at the shape of the connecting arms and the governor on the crank shaft this might very wel be a running example of the prendergrast design .

Free plans for a larger, simpler, beam engine

Thank you for also posting the solidworks model . I'm about to start to learn solidworks and this 'll give me something to study . Been a 2d designer all my life ( a'cad , draftsight ... ). But now , it's time I started learning something new wich can hopefully be used to 3d print patterns...

    Thumper--a 1 3/8" bore i.c. engine

There are electronic programmable spark controllers available . Mostly used in performance engines but I can't see why it wouldn't work on a model . It takes a trigger wheel on the crank wit a nmbr of teeth . Typical 36 . And a trigger on the cam to tell when the engine is in it's...

Use a non-contact infrared thermomator as a pyrometer?

Molten aluminium sticks to stainless , so after a few uses you end up with a blob kind of thing . It does not stick to the carbon rod so the measuring probe stays clean .

Use a non-contact infrared thermomator as a pyrometer?

Yes the bright surface of the molten ali throws off the reading . I use a cheap Ktype lcd meter off ebay , battery powered . Combine it with a less cheap long stainless ktype thermocouple with stainless braided cable . Use a drilled carbon rod to cover and protect the stainless from contact...

Atkinson Differential Engine - Making it work?

Yes the position of the spark plug is at a far from ideal location . Just thinking out loud , what if something like a couple of tig needles would be inserted from opposite sides of the cilinder meeting each other in the middle . That would put the spark where it should be . Hope you nail it ...

    Introducing ... the "Steel Webster"

The article makes a lot of sense , especially if you already understand ( more or less ) what's goin on . The trick for the calculations seems to be think in degrees instead of divisions like I did . Then it's just basic trigonometry . Indeed there are not that much passes needed as one...

    Introducing ... the "Steel Webster"

Can I sidetrack here for a moment ? I've always liked the idea of one cutter cuts all for a given module . Altough tempted , I never tried it myself . If I understand correctly , the cutter is basicly a rack to wich each gear , regardless of the nr of teeth must mesh . The only parameter...

Atkinson Differential Engine - Making it work?

A suggestion : try using propane as a fuel . Just a small needle valve into the intake circuit . That would rule out the non vaporising or condensing fuel issue .

So they actually work do they . Good to know . The induction heater that is :)

    Weird welding problem

btw , here's a link to the tow dolly I'm building . https://www.trailersauce.co.nz/trailer-plans/tow-dolly/introduction/ the site also has other free trailer plans , wich seem te be quite good at first sight .

    Weird welding problem

The great thing about this forum is the huge amount of knowledge present , and the willingnes of its members to share it . Apparantly it's not an easy task to get rid of the contamination once it is there . I used an angle grinder to remove all the bad welds . Then used a propane torch to...

    Weird welding problem

Lightning just struck ! Dow , stupid me . Yes the presence of oil would certainly explain the orange colour of the flame . I did spray some WD40 when I pressed both halves together . It was a very tough press fit . The other half , wich didn't have the problem , was pressed dry . I'm gonna...

    Weird welding problem

Yesterday I was welding an axle for a trailer , to make a tow dolly . As it's something that goes on the road it has to be decently welded and reliable . So I took out the TIG to make the first pass . Basicly it's a tube pressed into another tube . The weld is a lap weld . Diameter of the tube...

    270 Offy

The spark energy meter was described in the epe magazine february 2016 . It used 30 zener 5watt diodes , wich cost abt half a $ each . It looked quite an interesting circuit , so I was tempted to build it , but never got round to it . I must have the article somewhere as a pdf should any...
