    First sand casting

And as usual , the rest of the molten metal is cast into rounds wich will be general purpose . The stainless cooking pots give a very nice finish . The metal shrinks just enough after cooling down , so that a tap on a flat surface will free the cast from the pot . I've used them 5 times now ...

    First sand casting

The mould bentonite / water / whitesand , the ususal home recipe . Was a bit of a struggle to remove the pattern , but it came out quite nicely . If I would do this again, I'de probably use a core instead of a pattern with draft on both sides . The sand sticking out in the first jpg was...

    First sand casting

Another casting I did yesterday . This will become a bowl to make a waste oil centrifuge . The size of the bowl is abt the largest my lathe can handle . The pattern , made of pieces of mdf , cut at a 22.5° angle and glued together to make a circle . Primed with latex or emulsion paint , and a...

    cheap chinese arduino clone's

yes , got exactly thesame here at half the price https://www.banggood.com/IIC-I2C-1602-Blue-Backlight-LCD-Display-Module-For-Arduino-p-950726.html?rmmds=search&cur_warehouse=CN

    First sand casting

Oh I seem to have missed the replies to this thread . Sorry . The first picture is the pattern , not the casting . It was spray painted silverish but it's wood underneath . Pattern was made from some bit's n pieces mdf glued together . The source for alum iirc was a bent alloy wheel from a...

    Interrupt Driven Rotary Table controller

As promised I report back here with my findings . I had to make a small modification to the df Robot shield to make it freetronics/sainsmart compatible . Basicly what happend is that the designers of the freetronics display shield used a non common resistor . 2K . No that uncommon , but the...

    Building a model Drag Saw

Beautifull work as usual . Can you elaborate on the tooth profile . Does a drag saw need a different profile from a hand saw ? When sawing by hand , the cutting action ison the forward stroke , hence the teeth are a bit tilted forward . I guess next will be a model log splitter , and then...

    Interrupt Driven Rotary Table controller

Yes , the backlight pin from 3 to 10 does what it should . As for the shield itself , looking at the schematics , both sainsmart and freetronics use thesame resistor values for the buttons . 2K ; 330E ; 620E ; 1K ; and 3K3 . But the dfRobot uses a 2K2 resistor instead of a 2K . That is the...

    Interrupt Driven Rotary Table controller

I think my previous post was a bit to optimistic . I have what looks to be a sainsmart clone lcd shield . I tried it with a "button test " sketch , and they all work as intended . Left returns a left , select returns a select etc . But with the rotary table sketch , the "left" button is...

    Interrupt Driven Rotary Table controller

I printed the first post in this thread , and followed the instructions to the letter . It all works like a charm and I had it going in abt 10 minutes . That includes installing the IDE and arduino clone driver . BIG thumbs up for RodW . Do I need to cut n paste the bug fix in the code , or...

    congratulations , beautifull job . :)

    Elmer’s #5 Geared Engine . . . maybe

Looks like the movement is straight allright , just not parallel to the base . I guess a little tweaking of the ring and or the orbiting gear ought to take care of that . But look on the bright side , the gears do mesh and don't bind .

    Uni-Screw driver bit

can you weld something like a long hex nut or even a throwaway socket wrench to it ?

    Elmer’s #5 Geared Engine . . . maybe

Nice cad work , and it makes perfect sense . Tell me , what cutter did you use to make the gear ? 21 tooth gear with a .6155 diameter , I 'de say it's a 0.7 Mod gear .

    help identifying a gear

I guess it's possible . I know of 0.5m and 0.8m and 1m and 1.5m gears . Never heard or thought of 0.75 though . But , recalculating , a 0.75mod 20T gear should have an OD of 16.5mm . That is only a 3% error on the OD theoretical to actual value , so that ought to be good . What would be...

    help identifying a gear

I took apart a bicyle hub with internal gearing hoping to find a ring gear to possably build an elmer's no5 geared engine . It did have a ring gear of aproximately the right size and with an even number of teeth . So that would be ok . The orbiting gear needs to be half of the ring gear ...

    Elmer’s #5 Geared Engine . . . maybe

Bob , I think I understand now . The stroke is twice the pitch diam of the internal gear . Crank throw and gear arm have to be of equal length , that makes it 4 times .375 from tdc to bdt on the original plans wich results to 1.5 inch stroke . At tdc the crank centre is on one end of the...

    Elmer’s #5 Geared Engine . . . maybe

been wondering as I followed this build . You've already made the piston and cilinder , right . If a smaller ring gear is used , that ought to affect the stroke of the piston . Did you adapt the dimensions of the cilinder/ piston also ? Pat
