Of course, the suggestion is Fanciful. I could be less polite but will refrain. FCHeslop's posting of an really superb video sets a standard which surprises and delights me, As far as I can see, ALL the wonderful outcome was achieved on these mucg despised Chinese lathes and having a similar...

I would suggest an adjustable boring head. Of course it is possible to use an independent chuck or a 3 jaw one. Old fashioned - and possibly long forgotten but- it works

Thank you but I am in no position to disagree. I have one lathe with MT No 2's and another with a No3 and a No2. The Mill/dri;; is No3 and I was sufficiently prudent to ensure that ALLL my workshop has either Myford tooling or the ability to be adapted. So problems either do not exit or are...

Gordon, it is Morse Taper but the number can only be determined by giving the diameter of the widest part of the spindle. According to my 'Bible' which is the geo Thomas Model engineers Workshop Manua; No2 is 0.070 and Number3 is0.938" Somebody should have ha said ve you that you needed a...

    issues with head bolts

Classically, the socket head dimensions fell outside of the three standard Deviations from the Mean and would only require a 'within spec' one. However there is a possibility - because of the similarities- of small socket screws that it could be accidentally a wrong bolt altogether. You see...

The more that one learns, the less one knows. But on a far less important issue, it is obvious that Van Royen was never read or perhaps someone had an ear for such things as Van Gogh. I made a Quorn to the design of a Professor of Engineering and who explained in detail of how the 4 and 6...

I disagree - with everything Alexander Pope and echoing Juvenal much earlier said:- A little learning is a dangerous thing

    What size hex driver?

I got a SMALL 4 jaw Myford Burnerd independent chuck-- minus the key and the size is 'sort of hidden. So I stripped a piece of scrap wire, made a hook in the end and put the end into the recess-- and filled it with m y hot glue gun. I 'Miked it-- QED;)

    What size hex driver?

Well, yes:) However my homemade pair will fit both Imperial and appropriate metric sizes. Humm- back to dear old Euclid and the adage:- The son of the squaw on the hippopotamus hide is equal to the sons of the squaws other two hides:mad:

    History of wedges as fasteners

I seem to recall 'Lots' of Merlin propellors dating back to BEFORE I had spots and-- I'm now nearly 90. Now at 19, I was boss of the Technical Library at RAF Technical Wing at Hendon- with my RAF 31 Squadron, the Famous 3 Spits and 601 and 604 Squadrons. There was- a LOT of Merlin powered...

    Let's talk drilling...

I recall that in 1973Prof Dennis Chadock writing on his Mark1 Quormn T&C grinder advocated the use of 4 and 6 facet twist drills. More recently, our own BaronJ published is design which appeared in the GadgetBuilder.com site. No mention- WHY?

    What size hex driver?

In the last millenia- or Donkey's Years, I made up a pair of mild steel hexagon spanners using driven in hexagon key steel. Every decade- give or take the odd century or two, I regrind the ends again. Far more recently, I copied the spider of FOUR Allen/Hex keys to the format of Eccentric...

    Toolpost Grinders

I still have my Bosch POF45 and a cheap Chinese wood router. Basically, things have changed in the last 50 or so years when designs for amateur workers were published by people like Ian Bradley and Jack Radford. Again, there is now a plthora of tool and cutter grinders of varying quality but...
