It's time to declare the piston is ready to be put aside so that I can get the piston and conn rod ready for their role in this. The inside of the cylinder hasn't been lapped, and I'm pretty sure that's something I should do. That will open the cylinder up a little, so it's probably best...

    T head engine by Brian

The other way to show all your engines running is to edit a video that shows all of them running, one at a time, combining 20 videos into one long video. Or people could go to your YouTube channel and look at them. I'm assuming you have at least one video of all of them. Probably easier than...

    Knucklehead Drawings

I've learned more about the HD engine today than I knew before. Until today, all I knew was that I saw a guy who made a model once, so I knew the name. I have no idea if that model is worth buying.

    Knucklehead Drawings

Maybe I've lived a sheltered life (as an American) but the only times I've ever heard the term knucklehead, it was either an insult, like calling someone an *****, or a specific Harley Davidson engine. The engine @Felix attached seems to resemble a knucklehead in some ways, but not all. I'm...

    Offenhauser Mighty Midget Racing engine

Well, add yourself to that list as far as I'm concerned. I'm overwhelmed reading this build, Foketry's Porsche 917, Mayhugh's Ford 300 Inline Six, and more. Glad that idea on the fins worked out for you.

    Horizontal Air Cooled Engine

Thanks for that. You reminded me of a place where I could use something similar. Totally unrelated, but ideas tend to work that way.

    Offenhauser Mighty Midget Racing engine

Earlier in the week, I was thinking that maybe you shouldn't call this an Offenhauser because of the enormous amount of design you're doing. It's in the range of saying things like, "inspired by the Mighty Midget" or something like that, but it looks to me like it's your design. Which...

I got a break between the other things I have to work on, so I got back to the cylinder using the method in that Abom79 video that ShopShoe posted. It dramatically improved my measurement repeatability. I even used my existing telescoping gauge for this, concentrating on the feel and...

I'm embarrassed to say that I have that document and forgot it. I downloaded it when I bought the software.

    Deals on Alibre

Speaking of all of this, does anyone have recommendations for learning Alibre? I'm moving from using Rhino for the last 15 years and part of the reason for that is Rhino is very similar to AutoCAD in its interface. I opened Alibre once and there is nothing even remotely familiar. I tried...

    Horizontal Air Cooled Engine

FWIW, I've had good luck with Hobby Metal Kits in overall quality, fast shipping and all that. The only issue I've had is they tend to have a smaller selection than either Online or Speedy Metals. If Bernie told me he had an alloy that was good, I'd trust him.

There was one scene in that Abom79 video that ShopShoe posted that made watching the video 100% worthwhile. He was showing how he checks the fit of the telescoping gauge in his micrometer. The trick was it sticks on its own, but the tiniest touch makes it fall out. That's at the 11:53 time...

For unknown reasons the forum "Watching" this thread stopped emailing me that posts were coming in and the last update I saw was my own post last Friday night. I didn't even notice the thread in my daily "Yesterday's Forum Activity" activity emails and it should have been there. I can't say...

Sorry, bluejets, but one brand of which: the caliper or micrometer? I've never heard of them before, but I see they make both things.

This is completely different from the way I've been doing things and I'm not quite sure I have enough hands to do this. Do you set the mic and then set the lock to keep it from moving? Do you hold the mic in a stand?

While doing my previous experiments, on one of the sets of measurements I ran into the problem of the micrometer making the gauge smaller. Tightening the screw that keeps the gauge from moving fixed it. I think. What if my whole problem with excessive variation in the numbers I got is actually...

K2 After messing around with my telescoping gauge a bit more, I figured it was time to get a replacement. I could get another used Starrett gauge or an internal caliper like you showed (except I'm guessing you made that knob yourself). I found a used Starrett internal caliper on eBay, and...

    Offenhauser Mighty Midget Racing engine

I'm way out of areas I have any experience in, but I'm not sure I see where this comes from in your drawings. If this results from the number of gears with the smaller pitch diameter can't the physical size of the engine remain the same? It would change the positions of features, the shafts...

    Horizontal Air Cooled Engine

Conrats, Brian. Going through the engine as you did - while we watched - reminds me of that Sherlock Holmes quote, "once you have eliminated all the rational causes, whatever remains must be considered, regardless of how improbable it may be." Eliminating the valves, the timing, the position...

Thanks, Andy, Crossing my fingers that I get a couple of hours tomorrow to go back out to work on this. I'm all but sure I'll have time on Christmas day. Bob
