    Hello, greetings from Costa Rica

    "Naval modeling" - - - - Hmmmmmmmm - - - - what kind of things are you doing in this area - - please?

    Stuart 10V - Missing Part I.D.

I was using 'cladding' to refer to the metal buildup done using the oxy-fuel torch. Believe (not 100% sure!!!) that lagging can also refer to the covering (I think its insulating and covering - - - used to be done with woods for covering) of the 'hot parts'. This is an area of arcanery that...

    New(ish) member

Are you suggesting that I have some brains to pick (rotflmho) - - - funny guy? (Just one of the not so lurky turkeys - - - maybe having too much of a good time!!! Its a good morning - - - a snow storm last evening with strong winds overnight, followed by a hearty breakfast of fried eggs, bacon...

    Homemade measuring tool inner diameter

If that question was for me - - - well - - - you just don't measure using a caliper. At this level its micrometers only. It is possible to measure but you need to measure more than just one measurement AND use some trigonometry so its not for everyone.

TIG and a slow turning lathe also work. Nice job on the cladding!!!

Leading us back to babbet (sp?) bearings for exactly the same reasons.

    Thanks - - - dunno how I missed it!

    Homemade measuring tool inner diameter

Agreed - - - - construction MUCH simpler. Except with only 2 balls you're right back at the 'feel' problem. It is so very very easy to be a small distance off of the 'exact' centerline. That distance will result in a dia measurement error. Generally not a problem if you're only working to...

    Timing on the daily

Greetings Its not that long ago when the 'daily' arrived in my inbox at some 20.45 or so (from memory - - - it was somewhat before 21.00 EST). Now it shows up at 06.30 (still EST). I would prefer it fit something like 05.30. Is anyone else finding the new time less than wonderful? TIA

    Optimal number of boiler tubes.

Hmmmmmmmmmm - - - - several - - - I see listed ( ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code - Wikipedia ) some 13 sections some of which would be several, if not more, volumes in themselves. Last I saw a set it was a number of library shelves full of books. Even for welding there are some 4...

    Bore Gauge

Part of what I found challenging was developing 'the feel' with the telescoping gauge. Sorta like with a vernier - - - with out a good 'feel' an ID will be wrong (either not exactly at the diameter or else dragged big by the use of too much pressure). Maybe it was just me but I had to learn the...

    Optimal number of boiler tubes.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm - - - thought I was quite calm. ASME - - - - regulations were written to mollify a whole steaming heap of insurance companies and, imo, to largely obfuscate what they were actually doing. Pity about your local Federation - - - sounds like another group that could do with a...

    Optimal number of boiler tubes.

Re: boiler efficiency - - - - it would seem that only firetube boilers are on your radar - - - - which is most specifically NOT what I want. Safety factors with a water tube boiler are quite a bit better than a firetube boiler by its very nature! It would seem that copper is the only material...

    Optimal number of boiler tubes.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm - - - interesting - - - - looking at the website!!! You're finding 3 to 5 hundred psi very high pressure. ultra super critical fluidized bed combustion runs to well over double that. A lot of contemporary hydraulics systems are running at 4k and 4.5k psi pressures. That's...

    Optimal number of boiler tubes.

I had long ago found out that in engineering there is NO such thing as a clean sheet design that's why I've been trying to find something close! Are you up for questions on that design? With your last paragraph - - - that's why I've been known to ask 'what is the most efficient boiler...
