I first saw this on my 1962 Alfa Romeo twin camshafts. Wow I thought this is cool. But forgot to use it on my own engines. Thanks for the reminder.

    Thumper--a 1 3/8" bore i.c. engine

Enjoyed your build very much. Especially the TIG experience. I never learned to weld. So I always find a way around it. But I know it is a powerful tool, perhaps one day. Your engine reminds me of the OLD mac truck Dog figure, Squat and powerful. Thanks for sharing, Thanks for taking the time...

    Stuart Beam Engine Piston Rings

I have a vintage Stuart Beam engine I run it many many hours at shows on air ~3psi slow. I have also run it on steam for short periods . I use 1 VITON O ring. adjust your piston groove depth until you get a very low friction , but sealing fit. Nicely polished cylinder. I also use Viton for...

Atkinson Differential Engine - Making it work?

    Bummer, makes no sense?

Atkinson Differential Engine - Making it work?

Rings and Religion, not worth your time discussing. But I have a cool way of adjusting the end gap. Learned from a master Dwight Giles. Put 2 ,600 grit circular disks of wet /dry back to back . ~3-4" diameter make a mandrel to mount them on. Yes you can use scissors to cut them out ...

Atkinson Differential Engine - Making it work?

Nice Dave , glad to see you are using your own ignition, Now my 1.414 cents worth. Hall sensors draw several ma of power Reeds draw nothing unless the magnet happens to stop on it. Also what, if despite your pessimism, this thing really takes off and dances off the table? Yea I know you have...

Atkinson Differential Engine - Making it work?

Way cool again. I bought one of those induction heaters and a big switching power supply. So far it has just been a dust collector. I believe you have motivated me to finish an enclosure for it , Thanks for the motivation/ training.

    3 radial cylinders

Like it. I always wanted to buy the Saito 450 3 cylinder radial. One of the only times my wife vetoed that desire. I bought 1/3 of it as the Saito 150 . Still want the 450. I will be following, wish you success.

Atkinson Differential Engine - Making it work?

I forgot about the circular reed valves"with ears" on the old cox engines. They worked well. Just for what it is worth. As a kid I gathered old .049 engines that had poor compression due to ingesting dirt etc. They would not run on the original "cox" fuel. Fairly high nitro? But being a " Mad...

Bar stock inline four. Westbury seal inspired

Just a suggestion. Instead of putting a taper on each cylinder just make a single taper ring/hoop. you put this on the piston it squeezes the rings into the grooves and then the piston/ ring slip into the cylinder. I use this all the time and it works great. It also allows you to mill all the...

Hi Dave your FPGA driver for a CoilOverPlug Coil drives my blown V8 with compression ratio ~>10 at over 7 krpm no problem. Also Every Day Practical Electronics had an issue devoted to spark energy. A whole! bunch of zeners and a pic chip to measure the energy.

    Bolton No.2 Mill Engine

Beautiful ! I just recently finished 4 very similar valves for a Tiny power Twin. 4 required $35 each without shipping. Well that is motivation. Yes it equated to about <5$ an hour for labor. I used steel for the male portion. I didn't bother with the square portion, does it really matter. ? I...

Atkinson Differential Engine - Making it work?

Way cool, I never saw the plaster of paris trick before. How long does it take to cure? Also I was wondering what screws you use on your parts when you screw to the wood board. Conventional machine screws or wood screws? I have a lot of surplus epoxy so that is what I use. Very interesting...

    PDF's L-cheapo ignition

I am a major fan of Dave Sage's and friends ignition design. IGBT's specifically designed for coil driving what a concept! with a timeout. The time out stops you from frying your coil etc when the points or hall are left closed. I have made many of these units. They work exceptionally well. I...
