    Budget HSS lathe tool grinder

I made a 2x72 belt grinder out of materials at hand; the only thing I recall buying was a cheap PWM generator to drive the treadmill motor circuit board - only a few dollars. Details and plans here: https://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/threads/lets-talk-belt-grinders.33242/ Despite the...

That makes sense. Is it brass that does better with no rake?

wce4, is the positive rake true also for drills? I remember discussions of "blunting" drills or reducing their rake to 0 for metals that would tend to "grab" - maybe that was for brass instead of copper?

I've heard of using milk for machining copper. Never had an occasion to try it ... and not eager to have to clean it up or suffer the smell of milk gone bad! Also, isn't copper one of the metals for which a reduce rake is recommended? (Again, haven't machined copper, so don't know - operating...

Building a twin cylinder inline i.c. engine.

My $0.02, FWIW - If acetone is considered a household chemical, then that is usually my go-to solvent for cleaning things like this, so long as there isn't any paint or plastic that will be damaged by it. I also find that WD-40 can be an effective solvent for cleaning machine tools.

The unfortunate thing about forums is that sometimes one can "hear" something the wrong way. I have over-reacted (or maybe "mis-reacted") a time or two, and the anger that I felt at the time made it hard not to keep doubling down on the reaction. After all, my first reaction might be correct...

    thread measurements 13/4X8 T.P.I.

Lathenut, you're probably already thinking this, but just in case - if it were me, I'd make a trial piece or two out of sacrificial material to test the measurements I came up with. In my case, I'd probably start with a 3d print just to make sure I'm in the ball park.

4mm is very close to 6 tpi (note morsetaper2's comment above) - have you tried a 6 tpi thread gauge?

Collet chuck build - a work in progress

Did you dress the grinding wheel (i.e., using a diamond point)? If not, almost certainly the stone is going to be just enough out of true to bounce around on that flimsy shaft, and that may account for the results you are seeing. I'm not saying that you will get good results - Martin's point...

    Carroll Dividing head, Threads ?

I'm sorry to say that it will be impossible to find anything for this DH, so your best course of action is to send it to me for disposal. Okay, I thought it was worth a try ... ! Years ago I got a dividing head that (as best I can tell from the pictures) looked somewhat similar - though I am...
